It protects College Football. The rich will get richer and the corruption will be widespread. Think about a Kiffin trying to move up from a bad situation. He will be calling kids trying to get them to transfer.

So basically college football would actually become minor league NFL?

worse, professional sports own the rights to players through contracts. this proposal, in a nutshell, would bind the athlete to nothing.

Or Gus will now be able to get a qb developed by someone else to transfer 8n every season.

This is the best thing for the players. No reason they should be stuck at a college when they wish to leave.

This is a terrible idea. Wild West style football. No rules. SMU on steroids.

This will essentially turn the lower tier D1 schools into JUCOs that will develop younger players who then transfer to upper tier D1 schools if they show they can play. For the upper tier of D1, I think this could actually result in alot of parity as a guy who is second or third string at and LSU or Bama would transfer to a Vandy or Mizzou to start. Could also lead to some strong teams at the top academic schools as guys who are good athletically and academically but see they don't have an NFL future transfer to a Duke or Stanford for their last 2 years to set themselves up with a prestigious degree with a built in wealthy alumni network.

People in Hell want ice water.

Lifting the eligibility rule would fundamentally change the game. The NCAA has an obligation to the student, and that includes the students who choose to stay at a school, the students at smaller schools, and they have to protect the students from themselves.

It's a brave new world where the GPA requirement means professors will suddenly start lowering grades to keep the players home instead of raising them to keep the players eligible. Madness will ensue.

While I'm no more in favor of changing the transfer rules than you are, and probably for most of the same reasons, the NCAA doesn't need to be in the business of protecting adults from themselves.

It doesn't. They can transfer to wherever they want. They just have to sit out a year.

Tge rule is fine the way it is. Letting all players transfer and be eligible immediately is going to cause major chaos. Just wait until you have that big time QB your coaches developed that you think you have locked in his JR year but a team like Bama comes calling for him in the spring and he jumps ship leaving you with no good QB option. There goes your season.
