Not sure I totally understand what this means.
Let's say a kid sign a LOI in February. Then decides he'd rather play for someone else when August comes around. Can he do that? Or is he bound to his LOI if this happens?
Actually seems like you could really game things if you were a highly recruited player. Don't bother with recruiting, just pick the best spot when you are actually ready to enroll. I guess they could do that now, but they never seem to.

This would wreak havoc on depth charts. I don't like it at all. RBs, QBs, and WRs could become journeymen.

This will ruin (I know) college football

Im all for it. The NCAA says a person has 5 years to play 4 years of college football.
If im a student athlete and I want to play at 4 different universities than thats up to the player. A scholarship is only good for one year so i should be able to play where i want.
The NCAA should protect the student, not the university.
Yeah. And as we have seen in recent years, when a coach doesn't want a player anymore they move them on. If they allow coaches to do that, then I think you have to let players do this. It will cause a lot of trouble though.

WKU just signed 5 star mitchel he left the school in august after signing in feb. He had to get permission to be released from western. He decided to stay even though he could transfer. Western cant force mitchal to play regardless of the LOI so their screwed regardless

quote:Ehh, there are apparently "two polar opposite" options within the NCAA's Transfer Working Group. I believe they'll leave things just like they are right now once they sit down and view all of the data.
In April, a 19-person task force comprised of commissioners, athletic directors, coaches, and student-athletes initially assembled under the name of Division I Transfer Working Group. Their mission was to bring a fresh approach to the often publicly maligned transfer process. Although earlier groups had been formed in prior years under similar missions, the Transfer Working Group was given more data, while also tasked with the goal of trying to create uniformity within the transfer process.
By late June, the Transfer Working Group made progress on creating uniformity in transfer rules. They contemplated two polar-opposite options: the first was to require every student-athlete to sit out a year, while the second option was to enable every student-athlete to be immediately eligible upon transferring to a new school, as long as they achieved a minimum GPA designed to lead the student-athlete ultimately to graduate.

quote:the SEC and most of the P5 already does. Their scholarships are guaranteed for school just not guaranteed to be on the roster IIRC
Is this a power play to force all schools to offer 4 year scholarships?

- I don't see that this is going to change letter of intent rules. I think the concern about players changing their mind before they even enroll as freshman is misplaced. You will still have to get a release from the LOI or sit burn eligibility.
- I'd like to know what the minimum GPA will be. 2.5? 3.0?
- It might hurt FCS programs more than non-P5 FBS. Right now FCS programs take advantage of the rule allowing transfers down to play immediately. Schools like Jacksonville State and eastern Kentucky have 12 and 14 FBS transfers on their current rosters. Since many of these players left either because they got in trouble or lack of playing time I don't know whether the new rule will change anything?
- It may actually free top talent from being hoarded by elite programs. If Alabama has 3 5-star players at the same position, this makes it easier for one of them to move to a different school rather than riding the bench until he's a senior.
