So why isn't Florida being picked to win the east?

We all know Tennessee will implode. Georgia doesn't look that strong either.
Florida will improve on offense. Our defense should still be solid. We should at the very least go 1-2 between Tennessee, LSU, and Georgia... but could be 2-1 or even 3-0 if we play our cards right.
We already know McElwain can coach. Kirby Smart we have no idea as far as being a head coach, and Butch is Butch.
So why not Florida?
I guess we will fly under the radar like we did last season and take the east with ease again.

Because Tennessee's roster is better than Florida's.

I don't think your secondary will be half as good as last year. but I'm not in on the replacement guys. If that remains a strength Florida will be in the hunt

Other than Ole Miss and Georgia, we did nothing with ease last year.

There is a whole bunch of ignorance in this thread. Tabor is another first round db.

Our secondary will be fine. Hargreaves isn't that big of a loss considering he didn't do a whole hell of a lot last year and our replacements are pretty good. Our biggest question is obviously QB, but I mean, comon, it can't get much worse than having Treon Harris at QB. Del Rio should be a big improvement.

The dude who already transferred twice because he couldn't get on the field?

I agree with a lot of what you said but I don't think will do anything with ease. Unless the O is much improved, we will still win some nail-biters counting on our defense and kicking game.
In our favor, we can count on UT to choke, 12 straight will happen, UG will be competitive but with a new coach who knows and we have owned them for 25 years. USC has Will Muschamp, Mizzou is a dumpster fire and Vandy and Kentucky are, well Vandy and Kentucky. We should also at worst go 1-1 against the west teams we play. So, I am confident that we will repeat as east champs whether the media wants to agree or not.

From another thread on today's board...look at the stats from 2015.
Stats
Look at Passes Defended:
Jalen Tabor - 14
Brian Pool - 10
Hargreaves wasn't anywhere on that list. Why??? Because people were throwing on the opposite side of the field. So, Tabor got 14 shots and made 4 interceptions because people were throwing away from Hargreaves. So, the question is, who will be starting at the other corner opposite Tabor, and how successful will he be when people are throwing away from Tabor's side of the field.
I will add that the stats show Hargreaves with 4 interceptions and less than 8 passes defended. That doesn't sound like a horrible pick to pass ratio to me. (Looking at his stats in greater detail...Hargreaves had 4 ints with 152 return yards last year...he might be a bigger loss than you think).

What those stats don't show is how many times he also got burned and/or turned around. It just didn't seem like he gave a shite this season. At least that's how it felt.

Because florida was not good last year and the vols return a ton.

Well, that's more important than stats.

Cuz Tennessee and Butch jones are absurdly overrated.

You better hope Mac can coach. Florida's offense my be worse this year than last and that's saying something.
•Last in the league in sacks allowed (45), giving up 8 more than the 13th best team.
•12th in the league in total offense, barely beating out Vandy.
•13th in rushing offense, averaging almost a yard less a run than South Carolina. Dead last in yards per rushing attempt.
•A middling 8th in passing offense.
The good news, maybe, for Florida fans is that their quarterbacks from last year are gone. Will Grier transferred, and Treon Harris moved to WR. Instead, they’ll start a Purdue transfer, a freshman, or a transfer from Oregon State. Oh, and their leading rusher is gone too.
Since 2013, Florida has landed exactly two blue-chip lineman. David Sharpe, a 4-star junior, will play left-tackle and has earned praise from McElwain. Martrez Ivey, a 5-star stud, was hurt most of last year but is expected to play guard.
After that, Florida’s line is comprised only of three-star kids and walk-ons.
Let me repeat, Florida’s roster contains only two offensive lineman that were blue-chip recruits. How on earth could this be possible? From 2013-2016, the Gators’ home state produced 16 blue-chippers. Muschamp and McElwain brought in two. TWO. Urban Meyer brought in 10/17 during his tenure.
In 2016, Florida is expected to start at least three redshirt freshmen or sophomores on the line. Behind them, Florida is as deep as a kiddie pool.
Florida’s defense was talented last year. Indeed, of the 27 blue-chip talents on Florida’s 2015 roster, 19 played defense. That’s a lot of talent. Their defense, despite the offense’s clunking about, was 4th in total defense and did all it needed to do to get Florida to the championship game, including shutting down Georgia and managing to (sort of) slow down UT as much as UT managed to slow down UT.
The defense shouldn’t be as good next year. 5 starters got drafted and seven overall left the program.

This is a little exaggerated. Del Rio walked on at Alabama in 2013 and took a redshirt. It's been stated that the staff was ready to burn his RS if AJ got hurt. When Alabama sent Nuss packing and brought in Kiffin, Del Rio transferred to Oregon State since his skill set didn't fit Kiffin's offense.
At OSU, he was given immediate eligibility and became the backup to 3-year starter Sean Mannion (OSU's all time leading passer by the time he graduated and 3rd rd draft pick). Then Mike Riley up and left for Nebraska and OSU hired Gary Anderson. Once again, he was a square peg trying to fit into a round hole. So he transferred to UF and reunited with Nuss.
He went to two schools where we wasn't recruited and worked his way into the back up role behind a 3-year starter each time. Ended up transferring each time because the schools changed offensive styles that didn't suit his skills. Hardly due to his talent level.

The O line was patched together last season with a transfer from Fordham. Because Muschamp completely neglected the position. The line will be improved. Wr position will be improved. Rb position will be improved. And most importantly no Treon.

Even if our defense is 80% as good this year as last year and our offense improves by 50%, we win the east with no question.
Guess we will just have to see.
