Probably b/c a bunch of Muschamp's defensive players are gone.

We already know McElwain can coach.
We do? Is this a proven fact?
Last year Florida faced 7 bowl teams, managing a 3-4 record against such teams. You were outscored by 4 points per game on average. And you were outgained in yardage by over 62 yards/game.
Not included in the above stats is your narrow 7-point win against East Carolina (5-7)... your 5-point win over Kentucky (5-7)... your 2-point win against Vanderbilt (4-8)... or your 6-point Overtime win over Florida Atlantic (3-9).
Now tell me why you think it is a proven fact that McElwain can coach?

Florida will improve on offense. Our defense should still be solid.
You lost 4 starters on defense who were drafted in the first four rounds of the NFL Draft. That is typically not replaced with ease. Especially when your coach is averaging bringing in just the 8th best recruiting class in the SEC each year based on his first two years of recruiting.

So why not Florida?
See above

I guess we will fly under the radar like we did last season and take the east with ease again.
If by "ease" you mean your three wins by a combined 8 points against Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Tennessee, then yes. It will certainly be with "ease."

Even if our defense is 80% as good this year as last year and our offense improves by 50%, we win the east with no question.
20% drop and a 50% improvement = a better team... math checks out. I'd like to see how often teams have a 50% improvement on offense after not improving the talent on the O-line, losing your leading RB, and starting a QB that has transferred twice and yet to find his way onto the field. Not saying you can't improve, but damn that's some lofty expectations.

Did you write this blogpost? LINK /

He won 10 games with a depleted roster on offense. He had 1 decent wr and 1 mediocre rb. And quite possibly the worst division 1 qb in the past decade. The talent isn't quite there yet, but it is much improved.

All those problems and UF still beat UGA, again. With Treon at qb.

Quite honestly, I (and likely many other dawg fans) thank you for it. Without that loss, we probably don't pull the trigger on parting ways with Richt. While I think it could have been handled better, it was time for a change.
I like that you think this is some personal attack on your school. It's really not. It's rational discussion around the point that you provided. I didn't write the blogpost, nor do I think it's entirely accurate. I would anticipate some improvement with anyone other than Treon at QB, but some of the other problems lead me to believe that a "50% improvement" would be highly improbable if not impossible.

You're welcome. That blogpost is full of speculation and hyperbole, written by a blatant homer. No realistic Gator fan thinks that UF is a n.c. contender. But McElwain is doing a good but tough job of rebuilding the offense.

Florida lost their roided QB and sucked dick. They will continue sucking dick this year. 8 wins... tops.

Oh boy, I wonder what the Florida fans are going to bring up in retaliation?
What ever could it be?
What ever could it be?

something, something, in a row, something, something...

They can beat UT this year, which is where my money is until Tennessee wins a game, and still suck arse. They did it with Muschamp twice.
Posted on 5/23/16 at 1:40 pm to daltonvol
The Vol's have sucked dick for 11 years in a row.
Posted on 5/23/16 at 1:43 pm to daltonvol
I mean it has been 11 straight.

I picked Florida to win the East again this year.

Because Florida is better than you.
But now that you have Kirby... expect that to change after this year.

No one knows if Kirby will be a better coach than McElwain.

I think Florida will win the east. They have plenty of talent and the best coach in the east.

I don't see how the talent has "improved" under McElwain when far more is going out the door compared to what is coming in.
Here's what you have lost since Muschamp left:
1st round 2015 DE Dante Fowler, Jr.
1st round 2016 CB Vernon Hargreaves III
1st round 2016 S Keanu Neal
1st round 2015 OT DJ Humphries
3rd round 2016 DT Jonathan Bullard
3rd round 2015 OT Chaz Green
3rd round 2015 RB Matt Jones
4th round 2016 LB Antonio Morrison
4th round 2016 WR Demarcus Robinson
4th round 2015 C Max Garcia
5th round 2015 LB Neiron Ball
6th round 2016 RB Kelvin Taylor
7th round 2016 DE Alex McCalister
7th round 2015 WR Andre Dubose
7th round 2015 OT Trenton Brown
So since Muschamp coached his last game, there have been 15 Florida players drafted.
Now take a look at McElwain's first two recruiting classes and how they ranked both nationally and in the SEC:
2015 Recruiting Rankings:
#1 Alabama
#4 Tennessee
#5 Georgia
#6 LSU
#8 Auburn
#11 Texas A&M
#17 Ole Miss
#18 Mississippi State
#19 South Carolina
#21 Florida
#23 Arkansas
#25 Missouri
2016 Recruiting Rankings:
#1 Alabama
#3 LSU
#6 Ole MIss
#7 Georgia
#9 Auburn
#13 Florida
#14 Tennessee
#19 Texas A&M
#24 South Carolina
If you take each program's recruting ranking score and average the past two years together, according to 247Sports, it falls out like this (SEC Only):
1. Alabama- 305.25
2. LSU- 286.5
3. Georgia- 279.99
4. Auburn- 274.28
5. Tennessee- 268.83
6. Ole Miss- 262.93
7. Texas A&M- 254.71
8. Florida- 244.45
9. S. Carolina- 228.01
10. Miss. St.- 222.32
11. Arkansas- 219.39
12. Kentucky- 198.89
13. Missouri- 196.43
14. Vanderbilt- 177.29
Now maybe bringing in the 8th most talent in the SEC during the past two years will produce 15 NFL draft prospects, but the statistics point to it being far less.
I just don't see how anyone can claim that McElwain is increasing the level of talent on the roster when its clear that Florida has lost more talent to the NFL the past two seasons than any other SEC program... including Alabama!

When McElwain arrived the team didn't have enough O linemen to have spring game. Treon Harris was his qb for the entire 2nd half of the season. So just based on those two facts alone there is nowhere to go but up.
