Stupid rule.
Could have been 2010 in reverse. Bama loses key player for IB.
Honestly, that call is made, bama loses their best and most important player besides AJ and the IB impact would be huge. CJ is the qb of bama's D and bama will need him more than they ever have against AU's read option.

But it was close, and it was extremely violent. My point is they have been flagging that play all year long.

Not quite as violent the way they play it at Ole Miss.

I haven't seen that one before. The damn ref is pulling his flag out before the hit even happened. Bogus call.

That was a comment on the Georgia hit by the way.

Isn't what Christion Jones did the goal on majority of onside kicks? The guy could've called a fair catch.

I thought it should have been flagged. The only thing is he used his shoulder. Not much consistency to those calls.
Kind of like "hate crime" ...Targeting shouldn't exist.

They are Bama? They do nothing against the rules!

Can anyone explain this away?

Are you fricking kidding me? He used his shoulder.
Have we seriously gotten to the point where any contact that knocks a player down is a penalty???

Because it was a kickoff, not a punt. The ball is live.

I thought "targetting" is a Helmet to helmet hit. I see he cold cocked the receiver as he tried to catch the pass. About what happened to Kenny Nor wood got whacked by the LSU defender last week...

Fail. Please read pg 72 of the manual. It is self explanatory.

Alabama junior Christion Jones showed the world why the Crimson Tide are the two-time defending national champions, as he laid some lumber against Mississippi State on Saturday night. Jones raced down the field to cover an Alabama punt as the Bulldogs’ Brandon Holloway moved forward to collect it.
At that point, poor Holloway got smacked back into three Saturdays ago. Jones absolutely crushes the returner with a hit heard ’round the SEC (and the nation).

Protection ends when ball touches the ground according to page 72.

So many gaping gash's on this subject. This is no different than an onside kick in which someone gets fricked up in every instance without a targeting call. The guy was not defenseless, it's a kickoff for Christ's sake. This is what the fair catch is for. To defend yourself from annihilation.
Posted on 11/17/13 at 10:40 pm to Riseupfromtherubble
The receiver had every opportunity to lay Jones out if he wanted. He was anything but defenseless.

Yep, this is exactly what I was always told to do when I played football. Apparently some people never got good coaching growing up.

Or just could've called a fair catch
