Seeing this list really makes me look back and wonder how Tre Mason didn't receive more Heisman hype until the very end of the season. Even then, he wasn't talked about as a serious contender for the award.

I could easily see Chubb or an Alabama RB doing it here. Especially if either team plays a 13th, 14th and possible 15th game.

For Bama, all purpose yardage, sure.

But you won't likely see a Bama back rush for 2000 yds in a single season under Saban with the way he likes to split carries between 2 backs.

How come UGA can never find that Lady Luck. They always seem to hook up with her cousin Ms Underachiever.

Yep, that's why I singled him out in my OP. He had one of the best seasons all time for an sec rb and hardly ever gets mentioned when these goat list are posted.

If Herschel's Bowl stats were added in like they are today, his ttl's were...

1981... 1975yds... (84 in Sugar Bowl)
1982... 1855yds... (104 in Sugar Bowl)
1980... 1776yds... (150 in Sugar Bowl)

which would give him 1st, 2nd & 6th using Bowl games ttls. like McFadden & Tre Mason's totals include...

This was pre-SEC so I know it's not included but George Rogers numbers include

1978: 1,006 (in just 8 games)
1979: 1,681 yards
1980: 1,781 yards

eta: Not sure what his bowl numbers would add to that.

I know they weren't against an SEC schedule, but throughout those years we played the likes of UGA, Clemson, ND, FSU, Ok.State, UNC, NC State, Ole Miss, So. Cal, Pitt, GT, and Michigan.

It'd be interesting to see some of these stats + receiving yards. Obviously, some were so prolific there is no need to throw it to them, and some played before RBs were thrown to much. Some of our other well-known backs had roughly 1,600 combined yards. Lattimore with 1,197 running and another 489 receiving in 2010 and Duce Staley with almost the same numbers in 1996.

The biggest fricking Heisman snub in the history of the award and it's not even close. TD rushed for over 2000 TWICE but wasn't on a big name team with a great record. frick Eddie George.

He was the running equivalent of Sonny Cumbie.

The older records are even more impressive considering they were done in 11 games, and today guys get like 13-14 regularly.

Luck can be good or bad, so maybe this concept is over your head.

Ugh DMAC is 2nd in career yards. If he had stayed 4 years, that number would never be touched

HW only played 3 seasons as I recall.

Really? All you have to do is look at Zeke Elliott. Prior to the Bama game, Mason only had 1153 rush yards and 17 TDs in 11 games. Using other backs at that same time:

Andre Williams BC - had over 2000 yards and 16 TDs, and people discussed him as possibly breaking Sanders record. Had compiled 3 straight games with 265+ yards and 2 TDs, and 5 straight games with at least 166 yards and a TD leading up to the last regular season game.

Kadeem Carey Arizona - had 1559 yards and 16 TDs in only 10 games during that time. The previous year, he had nearly 1930 yards and 23 TDs.

Bishop Sankey Washington - had 1575 yards and 17 TDs. The year before, he had 1440 yards and 16 TDs.

Carlos Hyde OSU - had 1064 yards and 13 TDs in only 7 games and a drive. He was suspended the first 3 games of the season, and only played a drive in the fourth game.

Melvin Gordon Wisconsin - had 1375 yards and 12 TDs. He was the #2 back in his attack (albeit the more explosive one). The previous year he had 621 yards on just 62 carries.

Tyler Gaffney Stanford - had 1304 yards and 16 TDs during that time.

Jeremy Hill LSU - had 1064 yards and 13 TDs in only 9 and a half games. He was suspended the first game and a half.

So in conclusion, during that time before he blew up, he was nothing special. Don't get me wrong, I liked watching him play in those games, but heisman? Nah, no way.
