First of all, your premise that CLM is dumb is dumb. He graduated from Michigan, a major university & did not major in how to succeed in being an ex jock. A LOT of what the public saw of his persona was an act. And even if he is dumb, he's sure made a bucket full of money & taken good care of his family for life. Coach O is not dumb, ignore his accent.

I'm no fan of the hire, but I doubt a moron would end up as an assistant on 3 of the biggest powerhouse programs in modern CFB (Miami, USC twice, LSU)

Book smart? LMAO no.
But you don't get to where he's gotten (now multiple times) without having a certain type of brilliance. His failures and poor resume just act as evidence of his masterful ability to sell himself and manipulate his path through circumstances that would otherwise derail the careers of less "smart" men

I know where you are going with this but I don't think intelligence defines the entire picture. I believe Orgeron is an intelligent person and obviously very knowledgeable about football but he is not well spoken which a trait he shares in common with Les Miles. And frankly, I am a bit surprised that LSU would hire another coach who is probably perceived by many as not very intelligent due to limited public speaking skills.

Red Drum, please provide your source for your comment that Coach O is a "less smart" man. If it is his accent/culture, then you are the dumb one, as I know a ton of folks from down his way that are extremely successful business men & good family folks. You ever see or hear the old "Mr.WalMart"? He was as country looking & sounding as can be. And, no, I am not comparing Coach O to anyone. Just saying don't judge a book by its cover.

Coach O may not be the best public speaker, but he's much better than Miles. It's just his thick accent, Miles just rambled and said stuff that just didn't make any sense.

I'm sorry... umm... that's not what I said. Thus I have no source. He's proven to have supreme intelligence, and not have past failures impede his assent like it would for other men "less smart" than him.
The quotes were merely to emphasize the fact that "smart" can be defined in many ways, each no less impressive than the rest

I don't think Les is dumb. I think he is very, very stubborn, and probably has some self-awareness issues. I won't knock him for not being able to communicate in front of cameras, that wasn't his job.

He managed to become a millionaire by instructing people he recruited on how to play a sport. If that's not smart, I'd love to be that kind of dumb.

I really can't figure him out.

Think what you will but some facts in his resume may lead you to a conclusion. He has been an assistant coach on four NC teams - two with JJ at Miami and two with Pete Carroll at USC. He was DL coach at all four but he was also the recruiting coordinator and Asst HC at USC under Carroll. He also worked under Kiffin at UT and USC FWIW.

He had an out of control younger life that cost him some credibility but seems to have grown up in the last 20 yrs. Bottom line is he was tutored by some very good coaches who have won it all multiple times along the way. I would like to think that these capable men saw something in him that drove them to give him a part of their administration in their championship programs...

Coach O looks and sounds like a meathead. He probably has the lowest IQ of all HC.

Do you make 3.5 million a year. If not, I guess he's a lot smarter than you.

Just off the top of my head, I can't think of a single coach to be considered intelligent.

Imo, Saban's success has more to do with his personality than his IQ

Also, on this page I've learned that people who make more money than you are more intelligent than you.

Is this going to be an accepted Statement of Fact going forward on tRant?

I vote to approve this as a board rule.
