He's the king of 1 loss seasons no different than Bobby Bowden. Only difference is voters like Saban and put him in championship games

Moo state would be the king of 1 loss seasons, if the season ended after opening day.

Yes. Until he retires Alabama will always be THE powerhouse school of THE powerhouse conference.

He's one of them. But college football changes quite a bit. Saban might have been mediocre in the 60's and 70's while Bear Bryant, for example, might have been middle of the road in today's football landscape.

Saban is clearly the best HC in the modern era just like other coaches were in their eras. Twenty years from now we will be talking about someone else who is the best in their era.

How many NC would Bobby Bowden or Tom Osborne would have had with a playoff system ?

His success at a time when there is much more parity in college football than there has ever been is just amazing.

The scholarship limits became effective in the 70's so I would argue there's been parity from about '80 on. Also, integration occurred in the SEC over about a decade (early 70's to early 80's.). So 1980 and beyond represents a distinct era of CFB.

In that era, Saban is without peer. There are about 3 or 4 coaches that would be in discussion:
Bowden - 2 NC and 14 consecutive top-5 finishes
Osborne - 3 NC
Meyer - 3 NC (and counting?)

FTR, I think Bama is as strong of a CFB program now as any team ever and Saban deserves a lot credit for that.

From Mike and Mike this AM:

This week will be CNS' 45th game of his career coaching the #1 team in the country, which ties Woody Hayes and Bobby Bowden for the most ever.

Avoiding an upset, he owns that record, too.
