He has the GOAT record but if you had pick a coach to coach your team on a level field, he is far from the GOAT.

I don't buy this... Recruiting is part of the equation and he's obviously VERY good at it... With that said, the 2011 LSU and Bama teams were equally as talented as demonstrated by 9-6. BUT 21-0 proved that he was by FAR and away the better coach.

I think he has another 10 years atleast, he would hate being retired, probably would give him a panic attack.

Best during his time, yes. All time, maybe.

How many NC would he have under the old system ? A system of Bowl tie-ins and Poll Championships. Then compare that to other coaches who won it under the old system. Prior to the BCS, one loss and you were done.

The level of consistent dominance in this age of football is pretty baffling. It would be pretty hard to argue against it

Yes, but not because he has destroyed LSU.

Even when everybody is glorifying your coach you still bring up LSU.

But can we measure him normally? He's not a man, he's a god....

I hate myself for even saying this...

Yes he is the best of the modern era. I believe he could step into any of the power house recruiting schools like Michigan, USC, or OSU and do it again and again. Could he do it at a school where he was not getting automatic recruiting? Probably not as dominant, more like his tenure at LSU.

Of the modern era? Ok. He's a great coach. Knows the Xs and Os. Great program administrator.

Bear Bryant was a leader of men. You listen to his former players talk about him, and they say things I don't hear about Saban.

For that reason, Bear remains GOAT for me. They just don't make them like that any more.

And I put Pat Dye, Bobby Bowden, Gene Stallings in that "old school" class.

Saban belongs to the modern mercenary class.

Rhetorical question right? The only folks that would say otherwise are obviously just butthurt over which University he became the goat at. This isn't much of a debate.

Sure, for the phony FBS Division 1 league. For any other college division not even close. They have actual rules that must be followed. But yes, he is the GOAT for this division.

No. Greatest to coach Bama though for sure.

Too many elites to definitively say on the national level. Especially guys who have done it at smaller schools and/or built programs. So many variables to consider.

I say yes to this. His record (200-69, 5 rings) speaks for itself. If he continues to win and gets 1 or 2 more rings, I don't think it's even a question at that point.

Scholarship limitations alone almost makes it impossible , unless you can recruit your arse off .
