I'm talking about a big back, who is 6ft plus, who has the speed to match the power. Gurley is 6-1, 230+lbs, and can take it to the house. Gurley never had the Oline that Richardson had at bama, Gurley has done more with less. Plus Gurley has amazing hands.
Like I said, i think AP is the last back that has come out that is similar to Gurley, but I would say that Gurley is even more physical than AP, but maybe not as shifty.
That first gif vs tenn, is just a perfect example of Gurleys explosion, speed and power. He has a skill set that not many backs in the NFL has. The only knock, is that he sprained his ankle one time.
As I said early in the thread, I like Gurley's play and physical stats, but let's not go overboard here. He's a great RB, but he's not yet proven to be the sort of transcendent once-or twice-(or-three-times)-in-a generation type RB that an Adrian, Barry, or Herschel is. If he was, we wouldn't have this thread in the first place because we'd all just assume he would be a top 10 pick regardless. These comparisons are highly premature and, frankly, unnecessary in light of the fact that Gurley is good enough to be praised purely on his own merits.

Did anybody claim that he is?

Reread the title of the thread. When talking about Gurley being a first rounder, it's certainly plausible to compare him to other RBs that have also gone in the first round.

I wasn't responding to the title of the thread. I was responding to you and your equitable comparisons of Gurley to AP.

Might want to reread something else then, because I never made that comparison.

Gurley got closed on by Marcus Roberson in one of those gifs. Roberson ran a 4.6... So, I guess you could reasonably say that Gurley runs a 4.85?
Also, didn't say Gurley was a HR hitter. But where this came from about no speed and injury plagued is just an insult.

I don't know. I'd say that he has mediocre speed and is injury plagued.

Sorry, I just assumed you were the same Georgia fan. My mistake. Why on earth did you insert yourself into my attempt at dialogue with someone else and act like you were the one being criticized anyway?

I think it was me you meant to respond to. I wasn't comparing him to AP by any means. I was just showing that tall backs can be successful.

Ah, well, that's fair enough. They're simply a different type of back from the Barry Sanders mold, and can actually be more effective in some ways (certain types of blocking, pass-action, etc.) The main knock against them is running style, and that can be adapted by any decent RB/coach.

Wasnt he the guy on the way to meet his mom at the dmv and got arrested for driving on learners?

No. The NFL doesn't draft average RBs that high anymore.

Gurley was not 100%. he was still greatly hobbled and slowed by an injury. By the way...did Roberson catch him?

That was John Atkins. Really underrated arrest story

I just googled it and didn't see anything about it. Did we sweep it under the rug, ala T-Town style?

Which destroys your credibility.
one of Gurley's biggest attributes is his top-end speed.
The former track star from Tarboro, N.C., showed off his speed in his first game as a college player, taking a kickoff back 100 yards against Buffalo in 2011. He boasted a 4.4 40-yard dash in high school, per 247Sports.com, and ran track for Team USA in Europe during the spring and summer of 2011, according to his Georgia bio.

I'm sure you didn't know this but Gurley was playing about 80% in that Florida game. If I recall, that was his first game back from the ankle sprain. So no, he wouldn't be running as fast as he normally would.
