After two straight years of no RBs being taken in the first round, will Gurley be selected in the first? He's the only RB with a shot at it, in my opinion. I think he'll definitely grade out as a first round talent, maybe even a top 20 player, but do you think he will go in the first?

Who gives a shite where he's drafted??

He's gonna tear up the SEC next year. That's all that matters

I can only presume that he does indeed give a shite.

Sarcastro bringing the pain.

This is not an unreasonable question and doesn't smack of a flame. Gurley is the acknowledged best RB in the SEC right now.

I think this will continue to be the trend. I don't expect him to go in the first. I don't think that means he isn't a great player, but I think teams are figuring out it just doesn't make sense.

I think he will be as long as he stays healthy.

If he stays healthy, I think a lot depends on how Jeremy Hill does in Cincy. Hill was considered 1st rd talent but had the baggage; if he makes a big splash you can assume Gurley's stock will rise. He might go to a good team in the late first.

That's assuming Gurley doesn't get hurt again, though.

Let me adjust- barring injury, he's a solid 1st.

Reasoning- somewhere near the end of the 1st round, New Orleans will be on the clock. Pierre Thomas will be over 30, Mark Ingram will have finished his rookie contract, and Drew Brees will have approximately the same time left in his career as the average workhorse RB will have coming out that year. The Saints defense is young and loaded, Graham will be back, and they just added an explosive WR this draft.

Drafting Gurley would be cheaper than resigning a vet, and he'd upgrade the position while Drew makes his last run. I don't think the Saints pass on him.

The reason why the RBS have been slow-played in part is that none of the last two draft classes have really had a huge standout. If you miss on one by waiting, you can always just choose the next one on the board when you come up next. If Gurley ends next year head and shoulders above the other Rbs then I think he will be a late first round pick, going to a team that doesn't have a lot of needs to fill.

If he has the kind of season he's expected to have, then yes, he's a 1st round pick.

Running backs are a dime a dozen if they're just productive. The Adrian Peterson types are the ones that get picked up in the 1st and Gurley definitely has that kind of potential.

Reasonable.

I doubt it. The NFL has made rb the worst position to be to get drafted in the first round. They don't want to pay the big bucks anymore to running backs because they have such a short shelf life.

But it wouldn't shock me if someone took him in the first round but I'd still bet against it unless he runs for 2000 yards this year.

He's fairly prototypical in size, athleticism, and style. If any RB (barring some surprise out-of-nowhere guy) goes in the first round, it'll probably be him.

The main problem is his injury history. I suspect that's a huge part of the reason Lacy slid into the late 2nd round.

Two years in a row no RBs in the first round. Multiple teams have stated outside of a Bo Jackson, Brown etc... type athlete you won't see any/many 1st round RBs.

I have always found this history quite amusing. He didn't miss any time to injury his freshman year, plays through thigh muscle problems early last, has his ankle rolled badly and still comes back long before it is completely healed, but he has an injury problems. SO laughable.

I'm curious what y'all mean by injury history? He wasn't ever hurt in HS, and he didn't get hurt cutting or the like, he had his ankle rolled on from the back when he was tackled, 99% of all players would have been injured in that situation. That's the only one he as ever had.
He came back and carried the load and never re-aggravated it.
