This surprises me.

Tell me more about your team's guys. Position? Expectation? Production so far?

We've got something like 4 5 star DBs in the last two cycles, plus a few 5 star pass rushers. We expect lockdown pass defense.

In terms of on the field production, we really have 7, as both Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray can't both be on the field at the same time unless we want to run a really ridiculous gimmick formation.

Myles Garrett and Kyle Allen will never be on the field at the same time either, but they're both still on the roster.

Bama has 3 running backs, does only one count? How about the 4 corners? They can't all play in the base defense so they don't all count either?

Backup QB, especially in our offense is extremely important. I'd say he still counts.

Let's not get carried away, count lol

only 3 of ours played a season, as true freshman

combined those 3 true freshman had 1479 yards from scrimmage, 2104 all purpose yards, 16 TDs, 66 tackles, 5.0 TFL, 1.0 sack, and 5 PBUs

Chubb, Sony Michel, and Keith Marshall were all 5*s and all have contributed since being here.

Jordan Jenkins, Malcolm Mitchell, and John theus are all starters.

Trent Thompson and Terry Godwin just got here but both are expected to contribute early and often.

Garrett and Allen don't play the same position. Apples and Oranges. The only team I've seen with 2 quarterbacks in the same formation is UL-Monroe in a game they lost by 4 touchdowns.

Ever heard of a "Maryland I"?

Dime Package? Quarter Package? 3-2-6?

Probably close to a third of the red team's 5s were upgraded by the likes of ESPN, etc. AFTER they committed.

So, not unlike the red team's number of titles, inflated.

This is one thing that people don't fully grasp, I don't think, especially as they try to disparage UGA's lack of success recently. Yes, nick saban is undoubtedly the best coach in the SEC...by a pretty wide margin. It's also notable that he has more 5 stars than the two 2nd place teams combined. Not only is he the best coach, but his roster is stupidly more talented on paper than everyone else's too.

For all the people that say 'Richt is such a great recruiter, why doesnt he win more?'...no, saban is a GREAT recruiter. These numbers prove that.

I know it's a tough pill to swallow, but isn't Saban kind of overrated?

I mean aren't there at least 20+ coaches in America that could win as much as he has with the talent he's had?

After his 15-20 5*'s he has every year, the rest of the roster is stacked with high high 4's. it's just insane to think about the talent and depth.

Eh. Is he the best strategist and teacher? I don't know. Maybe. Maybe not. But he is better than anyone in the country at doing the #1 thing successful coaches do: surrounding themselves with the right people and personnel. IMO, that has been Richt's achilles heel since day 1 in Athens (but it also seems like, for the first time in the 15 years he has been here, he has a truly good staff from top to bottom. I can't point out a weak link).

I also don't get the reasoning behind "Saban has such great players, so he should win every game. We don't have as many great players, so we shouldn't be expected to win as much."

Whose job is it to get the great players on campus? Why do some see recruiting as a peripheral aspect of a coach's job rather than arguably the most important thing that coach does?

from 01-04 richt had a just about perfect staff. There wasn't a single weak link (I guess you could say S&C, but times were much different then than now).

But yeah from 05-13 we've had some weaknesses at one place or another. Glad we're back on track.

When Bert burns Tuskalooser it will be the final death knell for the incredibly biased recruiting rankings.

I'll never understand this mentality of Saban's coaching ability. Yes, there's a lot of talent. But that's his job...to assemble a great staff and roster to compete at the highest level possible. All of that talent doesn't equate a championship. You've still got to turn them into a functioning unit.

You're not going to have a perfect balance of experience at every position, each and every year. Frankly, Alabama has been hurting for talent and experience at DB since 2012. With early departures and recruiting misses, 2013 and 2014 were way down. Obviously. The last two classes has seen a massive infusion of talent there. We shall see if it pays off, or the last two years are truly a trend.

Why isn't Trey Quinn listed as a 5 star? All the LSU fans told me he was the best WR in the country out of HS.

That didn't seem to matter last year when everyone was criticizing LSU's QB play.

Will Muschamp was the worst Head Coach of a major SEC team in recent memory

Dude.

If Muschamp was 10x worse that he was, she still wouldn't compare to how absolutely garbage Derek Dooley was.

I'm not sure about other vol fans, but i completely lost hope for any success after two years with that goof as coach.
