The fact that bama fans actually think this is about support is funny.
The fact that a bunch of donkeys who never went to a UAB game, donated money to the UAB program, and never went to UAB are crying about its football program being closed down is funny.

Hey, this is a valid reason and I don't disagree. But surely you can see the difference in this post, and the rest in this thread.
God forbid the terrible LSU fans feel bad for UAB.

There will be more. I assure you. The state of higher education funding is really really bad right now

I don't care about UAB football. But I do feel bad for the people involved with the program who now have to figure out another route to take. I'm mostly worried that the UAB shutdown will result in MTSU shutting theirs down.

Doubtful, teams want to move up not out, always have. There's a reason nobody has killed football in 20 years.

I don't think many of these schools will be pushed out like UAB. Sure, the money was an issue. But politics also played a role. The money has been an issue at many of these schools for a long time.

Just jack up the tuition and let the students take out MOAR student loans. What could go wrong?

I love how one the one hand Bama fans try to act like they don't give a shite about UAB but on the other hand they sure do get defensive about UAB.

Zero evidence of this

TV will kill nosebleed stadiums. Athletic Departments are going to have to get creative, and take losses in the surrounding stadium experience(mainly tailgating) to compensate for the windfall in television revenue.

I hate it for those folks myself; unfortunately, these things happen daily. Corporate layoffs, "downsizings," etc. create the same situation for many people every day.

Yes, football programs are the reason for the increase in tuition.
Football programs costs surely outweigh all the state funding cuts, right? It's not like in a recession higher ed budgets get squeezed/cut or anything, causing an increase in tuition.

That is what has happened. These teams are being funded on the backs of students. We are talking hundreds of dollars a semester and for nothing.

Oh, I know.

So surely UAB will see a significant decrease in tuition.

There are plenty of valid reasons to assess and possibly kill a program. This whole process reeked of a rigged deal and backroom meetings, however. Sunshine is the best disinfectant.
I would have loved to have seen what happened if there had actually been faculty/community involvement in the decision. Then there would not be any hypothetical questions about if the alumni and city would have done more. It could have been a put up or shut up type of situation. Now, after the fact, paper tigers can roar without having to make any commitments or investments --- Hoover City is just the latest example:
Hoover Mayor and Council Call for Restoration of UAB Football
I am still curious to see if the UA BoT legislation will ever be brought to the floor. I find it doubtful, but if Huntsville also supports better representation, it might have some leg for debate at least.

So since they happen everyday, we can't feel bad for the people it happened to?
