In my mind this is the year that the rubber really hits the road on Chizik. Year one we're dealing with the immediate dumpster fire that Tubs left us, and last year we were having to deal with the ramifications of Tubs phoning it in on the recruiting trail his last two years (I am not going to lament winning 8 games with the youngest team in the country playing arguably the toughest schedule in the country).

This year will show what he is as a coach. The team are his guys. We are young but we do have a year of SEC experience under our belt. We are talented. The schedule sets up as well as it can in any one given year, and we get LSU, Arky, TxAM, UGA all at home. 9+ wins and I am a believer. 8 and I don't know what I will think. 7- and I will be completely all out.

Very well said. This is Chizik's year to prove himself. He's got depth (all his players), talent, and experienced players at his disposal. We'll see what he accomplishes with them.

erroneous and you know it.

Not over the course of 3 years and a fluke national title

This I agree with. We shite the bed against UF and for the most part UT.

First year starting QB, who performed beyond expectations.

First year defensive coordinator under a new scheme.

What do you want me to say here?

How'd Auburn do in 2009 with a first year QB, first year OC, first year DC, first year Head Coach?

Yeah...if Chiz doesn't win 10 games this year I think Auburn fans might start to be a bit concerned. It is difficult to win at Iowa State, so he can get a bit of a pass on that, but it really isn't THAT much of a challenge to win 8 games a year at Auburn.

I get the guy's point on Chiz, but he is wearing a BCS championship ring. I could make an arguement for him anywhere from #4-6. Putting him at 7 is too low.

The only thing that keeps from buying in GC is that his defenses at Auburn( outside of a good run defense in '10) have sucked. He is a defensive coach. They should be better on def.

Joe Cox was functionally retarded and we didn't have a defense in any of those years. (Willie sucked)

Sure you can. Richt has been remarkably successful in the nation's toughest conference, and had about as good of a first 5 years as a head coach that you'll find in this league. I won't bore you with his winning percentage and all that jazz, but I'm sure you know that he has been a consistent winner for 10+ years.

Chizik, on the other hand, caught lightning in a bottle. If you want to look at his entire HC career (didn't click the link so idk if they did or not), he was atrocious at his former job. A job that his successor immediately came in and clearned up and took to a bowl. At AU he went 8-5 his first year, won it all with the best player in school history and a cloud of controversy his second year [and a piss poor defense, which he is in charge of], and went whatever yall went last year.

In his entire head coaching career, he hasn't proven a single got dang thing other than that he can win when Cam Newton is at QB. Other than that, what else has he proven?

Richt has won with different QBs, different coordinators, different schemes, etc. etc. and is still going strong.

Worse than UGA did in 2001 with a first year QB, first year OC, first year DC, and first year head coach.

Best and most valid point that's been made about the Chiz thus far.

Chizik should win 10 regular season games this year. Inexperience and talent are no longer an excuse for AU. They return almost every player from last years team, they have the talent on board along with depth at every position, and a favorable schedule. No excuse not to win 10 this year.

When has he not had players? Richt had the second best recruiting classes in the 2000's beside USC. And did nothing with them. More talent than anyone and he did squat..

This is bullshite. UGA ha the misfortune of going 13-1 before the SEC was thought of how it is today. Winning sec tiles isn't shite. Chizik had one good year with a once in a lifetime player. He is a defensive coach and all his defense suck.

Uhhhh no...the most valid point about Chizik so far is that over the course of his entire head coaching career has hasn't proven to be anything better than slightly above average when Cam Newton isn't his QB. With Richt (and Saban, and Spurrier, and others on the list) you can't just pinpoint a single year or single player that they won big with. They've done it multiple occasions over time.

Chizik is simply a one hit wonder and will always be so until he does something relevant without a top 2 player in AU history.

Paul Rhoades did MUCH better than Chizik did at ISU, and did it quickly too. The whole "nobody can win at ISU" argument doesn't hold any weight at all considering what the guy immediately following chizik did there.
