Sure. You could say that. Too bad you don't have Nick Saban walking through those doors to turn your program into a powerhouse.
Wait, you know who will will hire after Sumlin? Would you mind looking into that crystal ball and getting me some Lotto numbers?

Very true, we do the best when the expectations are low (see 2012).
That is why the entire SEC West should be watching their butthole next season.

Doesn't make a lick of difference to me if anyone "cares" or not .
I was responding to the poster who referenced the past as some kind of default forecast of the future.
That's not how it works.
But you can try to move the goalposts all you want.
"100 years of suckitude?"
Your dramatization makes it tough to take you as anything other than a flamer.
Good to know.

Found your problem: your best is an 11-2 Cotton Bowl season, with a 3rd place finish in the division

Ok, now that you found "the problem" then what is "the solution?"

Was OU 2013 considered elite before they beat Bama or only after?
I don't recall them being an elite team in 2013

I'm not moving the goal posts, I'm just pointing out that aggies like to talk about their ROTC requirement without regard to the fact that they ended their requirement before LSU ended theirs. aggies like to blame their miserable football past on their military school history without realizing that LSU was a military school before A&M was - and you don't hear us throwing it around as some sort of excuse.
That shite may have worked in the SWC/B12 (although I doubt it), but it will certainly not work with the Old War Skule.

It was just a play on One Hundred Years of Solitude.
Okay, so I was reaching.

Because you don't need to, because this man was born:
I bet a LSU without a Nick Saban in its history would be fighting us for that excuse.

What? You mean LSU owes all of their success to falling arse backwards in to Saban? Say it ain't so!

I mean they did make a good hire post-Saban and so that extended their run of success. I will give them that credit.
I just find it funny that modern LSU fans consider the last 10-15 years to be the norm for their program rather than the high water mark it really is.

It kills me in the off season to read Tiger Droppings and their belief that they are really close to a National Title. At worst they think they are a top ten team with an outside shot at the playoff. Seriously. It baffles me.

Some pre-Saban hires:
Dana X. Bible
Bernie Moore
Paul Dietzel
Charles McClendon
Bill Arnsparger

Wha...?
The year I graduated, 1990, LSU was ranked 12th all-time in win percent (A&M was 37th) and had winning records versus all SEC schools except Alabama and Tennessee (and was 26-14-3 vs A&M).

When was LSU entirely Corps of Cadets? I honestly had no idea.
I don't know where you're getting excuse out of simply articulating the fact that times in College Station have changed drastically--a paradigm shift to which few other universities can relate.
We're not the least bit defensive about it; it is what it is.
For historical discussion purposes, it makes sense to frame events around the pre- and post- women and mandatory military service eras.
We're talking about two completely different periods.
Why does that bug you so much?
"The shite may have worked ...."
I honestly have no idea what the deal is with your confrontational approach to this, but I wasn't "making it work;" it's a conversation.

Of those only Paul won a national title for yall. Heck Bear Bryant coached at A&M and we don't pretend he turned us into a powerhouse.

Is this not the height of Tiger football (since 2000)? Am I not accurate on that point?

That means jack shite. I could quote our winning percentage vs Baylor and TCU all day and yet 90% of the forum would say they have better football programs right now. All time win percents have teams like Yale at the top.
What matters is that in 1990 LSU had ONE fricking recognized national title, and ONE fricking Heisman winner. That was all the national hardware that was in the trophy case, which was the exact same amount of national hardware a 1990 A&M had.

Some people think the 90's is all LSU was pre-Saban, rather than the anomaly it actually was.

That is just like someone thinking our Fran years defined A&M. We are not the Fran years, yall were not the 90s, and only in the future will we know if a future LSU will be the program yall were in the 00's.
Yall act like yall are Alabama or something. From a national standpoint your program is one player (Billy won that 50's national title) and one coach.

Maybe it is because LSU puts together top recruiting classes every year and we have been to the top recently (2011 SEC champions and played in the NC game).
Unlike Texas A&M who has not won a national championship in 70 years. Oh well, you guys did get third in the SEC West in 2012. That is kind of good too. Congrats.
