17 starters from an 8 win team means what exactly?

Well it means a good bit considering we'll have both the depth and experience we didn't have last year, which was the main reason for our disappointing campaign.

When we have a returning starter at QB we tend to do quite well actually.

I just find it funny that modern LSU fans consider the last 10-15 years to be the norm for their program rather than the high water mark it really is.

Well get used to it its the new normal. As is LSU beating A&M on a yearly basis.

He won't help your defense as it gives up 60+ per game to us.

I guess when you haven't beaten LSU in 20 years you have to restort to fantasyland stuff like that

A&M could get really good at some point, I will grant you that. But you would also have to concede that it's just as likely if not more so that you don't reach that level in the foreseeable future

Why more so? I agree up to the more so. Success at the top of college football is coaching, which is a coin flip. We don't lack anything on paper but coaching.

Much better than A&M though

What LSU is today? Sure.

Pre-00s LSU is closer to A&M than Bama (unlike modern LSU).

Won't matter as long as we're within a field goal score from winning and the last play of the game is 3rd and Chavis.

You are focusing too much on wins and not national hardware. You sound like a Michigan fan.

Well #1 the competition is so much greater than it was even 10 years ago and with the kind of money the SEC is pulling in you're going to see more seasons where a Mississippi State or some other smaller school steps up. It's going to be very difficult for anyone to maintain an elite status year in year out unless you have a Nick Saban and those only come around once a generation.

Also college station is one of the least sexy college towns in the SEC which, while not a huge factor, does hurt you a little.

It's not like Tuscaloosa or Baton Rouge are sexy. Also we all saw how good being sexy worked out for UTex.

B/CS is a great city.
Most outside of tSECr know that.
Your average 17- and 18- year old kid is more than happy to come to a metro area of well over 225,000.
I know you're an incredibly bias Austinite, DC, but not all football players are looking for a bohemian culture, dive bars, and the Californication of a once proud Texas city.

It rises all boats. Sure MSU gets richer, but so do we and LSU. The gap stays the same between a LSU and a MSU.

If anything I think it will be easier to win in the SEC going forward. The gap between a MSU and a Texas Tech will grow. Soon it will be easier to recruit talent to the SEC because it will be obvious that everywhere else (except the B1G and a few key programs) are minor leagues resource-wise by comparison. That can only help A&M, who uses the SEC as our brand advantage in our region. We have to wait our turn for our spoke on the wheel to be on top, but at least we are on the wheel (2005 A&M wasn't).

And you pretty much agreed with me that coaching is the real difference, so I will take this as our best conversation so far.

Aggies never had any kind of sustained success in the Big 12, an easier league - how can anyone logically expect them to do BETTER in the SEC, especially in the West?

(inb4 'what has Arkansas done?' - but this is not about Arkansas.)

Is this Another Aggie moral victory! Great. You guys are good at these.

But you left off in the last three seasons LSU is 3-0 vs A&M. LSU finished ahead of Texas A&M every year in the SEC.

But congrats on your moral victory. That is kind of good too.

How is that a moral victory for Texas A&M?
He was comparing recordsof our respective schools, only after several LSU posters acted as though their team is far superior.
Without a doubt, LSU has had our number in recent games.
And I'd give them the edge over us, as a result of those head-to-head results.
No one's going for a moral victory; it's a chat about facts and numbers.
