Im not reading this whole thread, so why don't you just give me a high level overview (3-4 sentences) of what you're trying to argue, and then I'll explain to you why you're wrong.

Sentence 1: LSU's football success since 2000 has been a high water mark for the program.
Sentence 2: Just like a pre-2000's LSU had the potential to be the modern LSU (aka two national titles), so does A&M in our new SEC mode.
Sentence 3: LSU fans, more than any other fans in the SEC outside of Florida, should be more open to the idea that a program can step up the ladder from being a middle of the road program to being an elite program.
Go for it!

When was LSU entirely Corps of Cadets?
ROTC was required of men up until 1970.

times in College Station have changed drastically
Really?
Just an FYI:
quote:
In 1853, the Louisiana General Assembly established the Louisiana State Seminary of Learning and Military Academy near Pineville, La. The institution opened on Jan.2, 1860, with Col. William Tecumseh Sherman as superintendent.
You think the "Paradigm" hasn't changed a bit at LSU since then?
Cadets of the Ole War Skule
quote:
In 1955, a group of those cadets who had begun their LSU experience on the old campus, officially organized “Cadets of the Ole War Skule” as a way of ensuring future generations of LSU cadets and other alumni might never forget the University’s rich military heritage and traditions. Their annual meetings on Homecoming Day also afforded them the opportunity to officially encourage and support participation in the LSU Corps of Cadets. Many of those members were not only former cadets but also members of the University’s faculty and staff.

This applies to pretty much any thread. No one can mention any other school in their post without being accused of being "(fill in team name)-SESSED!" or "All (fill in team name) ALL THE TIME"
But which fan base on here is it when you see that 99.9% of the time.

What matters is that in 1990 LSU had ONE fricking recognized national title, and ONE fricking Heisman winner. That was all the national hardware that was in the trophy case, which was the exact same amount of national hardware a 1990 A&M had.
Circa 1990 LSU had been to 16 major bowl games (Rose, Cotton, Sugar, Orange) to A&M's 8.
Circa 1990 LSU had finished in the Top 10 on 15 occasions to A&M's 7.
Yeah, very equal programs

Bernie Moore won two, and Edgar Wingard won one, I just didn't list him.

IO don't know Jack, but if you wouldn't take it out of context, you would see that I'm referring to the fact that I was aware that LSU had a prominent football history prior to Saban getting to LSU.

LSU. There was 3 threads made the morning after we advanced to super regionals by LSU fans

Exactly - which no one does.

So when people say we weren't shite until Saban got here, and then we provide data showing that LSU actually had success in football prior to Saban's arrival, we're saying we're like Alabama?

Nothing like what LSU is now though. That is my point.

So this is really about Texas A&M more than it is LSU.
Yes the 2000-present era has been the best in LSU history, but I don't think it's as dramatic a difference as you seem to be saying.
Things do change over time. A&M could get really good at some point, I will grant you that. But you would also have to concede that it's just as likely if not more so that you don't reach that level in the foreseeable future.

Speak of someone dropping the "agsessed"/"all aggy all the time" routine, which is what I was talking about. Also, 90% of your threads have some sort of correlation to LSU.

1958-1970 was pretty close.

I think pretty much everyone could benefit from understanding that. There are really only two real "old-school" powers in the SEC, Tennessee and Bama. Then there are a few that are traditional powers who've earned their stripes (Auburn, Georgia, and the like.) Then there are a bunch with spotty but not unrespectable histories that have proven themselves of late (e.g. LSU and UF.) Very few college football programs, or their fans, can sincerely sneer at aspirational thought, and they usually get their come-uppance (Tennessee and Bama have had some hard times over the last decade and a half.)
Then there's us. We dominated a century ago. Not sure what happened after that. I don't keep up with football, but it's only logical to assume we're still dominating, right?

Maybe it is because LSU puts together top recruiting classes every year and we have been to the top recently (2011 SEC champions and played in the NC game).
Unlike Texas A&M who has not won a national championship in 70 years. Oh well, you guys did get third in the SEC West in 2012. That is kind of good too. Congrats.
Over the last three seasons you've won just as many games as A&M. And you just lost your best coach.

17 starters back though. By far the most since 2011.

17 starters from an 8 win team means what exactly? Especially when one of those 17 is your QB.
