i know where you're coming from. but Saban BUILT both programs back up. that's why he gets so much credit from people. it's easier (not EASY, but easier) to be able to maintain what has already been built than to build so many aspects of an athletic department from scratch.

that's where all of this comes from. it's -understandable- logic... not necessarily all the information required to determine which coach is actually "better" than the other. you gotta think about it, Saban builds an empire to two programs that had a very desperate fan-base... this will win a few hearts. (deep down there are plenty of LSU fans that probably still admire/respect him.. i would imagine)

but you are right about one thing. i do think Miles is a "doofus." i think he fits the LSU mold PERFECTLY. wearing that douchebag looking hat.. can't coach X's and O's very well..

Another dumbass myth. The guy has been an offensive coordinator at Okie State years before he got the head job. It's not like he doesn't know how an offense is supposed to work. Alot of you frickers think all he can coach is the O Line, and he couldn't hold a conversation with Crowton about how to run an offense.

Simply flat-out fricking false.

By all this logic, I guess the Dolphins should fire Tony Sparano b/c he doesn't know X's and O's, and since he was ONLY the Cowboys O-line coach. And this is the guy that took over for Saban b/c he couldn't do the fricking job. I'm not a Saban-hater, but the shite about "Miles can't tie his fricking shoes in the morning" is flat out fricked up.

i feel you there man. maybe i do discredit him too much. but, it's convenient. ;)

i mean, he IS the headcoach of a major sports program. you can't get there if you don't understand football well enough. but, i suppose it's all about comparative analysis.

If Les Miles can:

A: Carry on an intelligent conversation with me, or....

B: Earn an ATC score anywhere NEAR mine...

I'd be impressed.

He comes across as a "thick-necked tough guy" who thinks he can intimidate people. I do that every day.

frick him. Show me something more.

I wasn't directing all that at you b/c alot of other fans do that too.

Is Miles goofy? Yes
Does he have trouble getting what he's trying to say out? Yes
Does he wear a big hat? Yes - ala Bo Schembecler - SP
Can he recruit? Yes
Can he coach? Yes

So what else matters? Just win baby!

Please tell me you're joking.

Sounds like Southernstunna made an appearance.

Where did you go to school? College?

What did Saban make on his ACT? B/c if that's your criteria to be impressed, then you might be disappointed.

I'm sure Miles would finally sleep well at night knowing he impressed you.

fwiw: i've heard that even Miles himself admits to being somewhat weaker at reading X's and O's. i'd love to find a link to that.

don't be worried about what other people think about your coach if you like him. honestly.

what i don't get is the amount of LSU fans that CARE about what Bama fans (or other fans) think about Miles... WHO CARES?! we're not the ones constantly starting threads about how Miles sucks blah blah blha. it's ALWAYS threads about Saban. and that's why i got into this thread... the topic is so so so old... why there are new threads about Saban so often blows my mind.

if you like Miles, GOOD! don't worry about what other folks think. stop obsessing over Saban.

Normally I disagree with the vast majority of what you say and find it pretty entertaining on how you defend your stance on certain topics.

But all kidding aside, this is pretty much spot on. +1

I wonder where you heard that.

Look at his track record. OC at Okie State before he got the head job. If he sucked, do you think they would have hired him as the head man? The guy had more success at that school since Barry Sanders was running the ball for them.

Maybe he is weaker at x's and o's. But some of you guys act like he can't coach shite. It's the extreme.

Use Tony Sporano example again. Do you think he's got a stronger X's and O's offensive mind vs. Jason Garett? No, so why did the Dolphins even waste their time? The guy knows the formula for success.

Leslie went 2-2 against Stoops (very nearly 3-1) during his Okie state tenure despite FAR inferior talent in every matchup. Oklahoma went 47-7 in that span with 2 Big 12 Titles, 3 Division titles, and a National Title appearance against yall know who.

Mack Brown went 0-4 fyi.

That's fine and all, but you can't just compare head to head matchups like that and automatically come to the conclusion Les is better than Mack Brown. Otherwise, you'd be more than willing to trade Mark Richt for Les. Right?

so would I. I was watching the 2003 NC game Monday and Saban got the clock rules confused with the NFL. Even the announcers called him out on it. But we all know Saban gets a pass.

That's what I was getting at. If I had a shiny new nickel for everytime I heard this spewed from other fans on this board, then I could give John and Kate, + 8 of her litter enough money to cancel that sorry-arse tv show.
