Have to agree about Watson.

He makes that offense.

Alabama probably had the best defense in the country, but when you go up against a guy who has that talent and is playing hot, it is going to be tough to keep him from getting points.

The disadvantage, imo, is if he is playing cold or tight you are in real trouble and that is the key difference. Alabama has the talent to overcome a bad night from the rb, qb or recievers. I do not think Clemson has that.

He runs around, and nobody can cover receivers forever. I for one think our DB's did a reasonable job, and the secondary will be a strength next year.

We got some red zone stops, forced a couple punts and made a big stop when they got the ball at midfield on one possession in the second half.

I think people found out in these playoffs just how many weapons Alabama actually had. Kudos to Kiffin or somebody because that offense at the first of the year was nowhere near what it was at the end.

And it was done with sub par offensive line play at times. Cam Robinson played hurt first half of the year, and the right side never learned to handle quick DL's and LB's' I think we have a couple of guys that can play C pretty well, and if we find a RT we should be improved next year.

Back to the question, Saban has figured out how to beat the spread.
He learned that he had to have smaller more mobile lineman on D and an O that could score more points than the opposition.
He knows he can't shut down a team like Clemson, only out score them. That was when he brought in Lane Kiffen.
He won't win them all but will be hard to beat.

Bottom line is have one more point than the other guy when the clock says 0:00.

ND runs the spread and he shut them down pretty well a few years ago. It's all about the flavor of the week. It's not about the scheme it's about the players and Clemson has good players. That said the best way to beat Bama is still the spread.

And how do you think LSU would have fared last night?

That QB is the difference maker. Without him that offense is pretty ordinary. You play man he makes a throw into a tiny window. Play zone and he hits the guy in the seams.

Set the wolves on him and he slips by and takes off. Mush rush and your secondary can't cover forever. Bama got the one pick and stopped them enough.

It's not the spread that Bama has trouble with as much as it is mobile QBs who can make big plays from busted plays and also throw accurately.

Good qb like that are going to give any team trouble.

An accurate thrower who can also run is going to be nightmarish in college.

That gives anyone trouble. But as I said Bama got enough stops to win. We do need to get us one of those LOL.

think it's less to do with the scheme and more to do with an amazing QB performance from Deshaun

Their qb is a Cam type player. He will win a lot of games. It takes a great one to beat Bama. We were fortunate last night.

I agree.

The big risk with a player like that is that sooner or later he will have an off night. If you don't have the sufficient talent to make up for it, you will probably lose a game or two.

Conquered the spread? Bama was dominated and would have been beaten if not for a couple of fluke plays. Clemson would win 7/10 from Bama.

Fluke plays...a perfectly executed called onside kick that took Clemson by surprise, and a kickoff return to the house that Drake almost broke earlier in the game. They didn't dare punt to Cyrus Jones because they don't have decent special teams, and it cost them. Nothing fluky about it.

Guess it is a good thing for Bama that the refs only count the points.. Isn't it. Were it not for a couple fluke VERY accurate passes and GREAT catches by a walk on Clemson receiver, Bama beats them by 20+.
