Pretty standard for Saban. Once a coward, always a coward.

“If we’re all going to travel all over the country to have satellite camps, you know, how ridiculous is that?” Saban said, per Al.com.

Saban is trying to shut down what, the camps? Other conference coaches attending the camps? What?

This is an SEC issue, plain and simple - and it can be fixed if the SEC agrees to lift the ban on SEC coaches attending the camps.

Why is it that the guy with the biggest advantages from the NCAA, SEC and refs is always crying about his competitive disadvantage?

Complete non sequitur.

Also, it's been over 10 years man. Pull yourself together and have some dignity. People get over actual real divorces quicker than this.

Way to avoid the issue. I would too if I were you.

Because you have to work to stay on top.

A more interesting questions is why a program as historically significant yet currently pathetic as yours seems to be passive about these issues while you watch other powerhouses compete for titles.

Not avoiding the issue. The NCAA says you can't conduct camps outside of 50 miles from campus. The Big 10 allows for a loophole which basically says you can conduct camps as a "guest." The distinction is virtually meaningless and therefore the Big 10 is basically doing what the rule says they can't do by technicality. The SEC has abided by the spirit of the rule and put itself at a competitive disadvantage. Option 1 - enforce the spirit of the NCAA rule by closing the loophole. Option 2 - SEC exploit the loophole like the Big 10. Saban has put both these options on the table. He is fighting for his program's best interests (as any coach should do) and in this case the SEC's best interests.

You trying to make this about Saban "crying" only shows how obsessed you remain with Saban after all these years.

Corch seems to agree with Saban.

quote:

Is there any recruiting rule you’d like to see the NCAA change to make it better for the colleges and the recruits?

“I think we need eliminate all these little mini-camps — these satellite camps and going out and working other people’s camps. I don’t think that’s good for anybody. I think everybody should take care of their own house, and all that stuff should be off-limits. They need to come to your campus. That will help eliminate the middle men as well.”

No, that just means Meyer wants a competitive advantage over everyone else. Didn't you read the OP?

I completely agree with him. There are issues addressed that are petty and important to an individual coach ,but this is not one of them. This is an issue that should be addressed as it affects every SEC team to differing degrees. If the issue has already been planned to be discussed at the next SEC meeting prior to Saban commenting on it....I imagine other coaches in the SEC have expressed the same sentiment to the Leauge office now that these camps are being held in all of our backyard.

Saban should receive no criticism here.

Didn't you read Meyer's quote? He has the same view as Saban on the subject. HarBrow and Franklin doing it doesn't mean that Ohio State does it.

Here is Meyers' take on throwing out scholarship offers. It follows the same line of thinking.

quote:

You recently said that some colleges throw out scholarship offers “like Pop Tarts.” What’s Ohio State’s stance on offers?

“When I was in certain places other than Ohio State, you do have to offer in masses just to get into the game (with a recruit). Sometimes, if you’re one of the first offers, (you might have a better chance). At Ohio State, we’re much different. I want to do it really right. Our coaches want to do it right. So we really don’t offer you until we meet you, spend time with you, and make sure you know what you’re really getting involved with. And then you know sometimes, especially in our own home state, people around the kid will be saying ‘This school has offered him. He’s got 20 offers so far, but you guys (at Ohio State) haven’t offered yet.’ Then we’ll ask them, ‘Have you ever met that school? Have you guys been there and have talked to them yet?’ They say, ‘No, they just sent an offer.’ And I will be like ‘Now what is that? You just gave out a scholarship worth $30,000 per year to someone you never met?’ I think some schools have to do that. (But) we’re not into that business at Ohio State.”

That's how he gets all the advantages... He's always complaining, scheming and throwing his weight around... Hell Gus beat him one time and slmost immediately he starts talking about how the HUNH is unsafe. Then he brings in a coach that speeds up his offense... He's a little genius..
