They won't stay down that long but their failed attempt to replace Mack with a top coach will cost them at least another 4-5 years

Life is good

No, but some success from us and a bad hire post-Stoops could turn OU into Minnesota.

We're rich bitch!

Coaching salaries are already obscene given these are state employees (most of the time) and in poor states and/or states enduring budget crunches or other economic woes. And further add in the budget crunches and/or pay of staff and faculty at unis as well as the ever escalating tuition and fees at unis. I really do wish there was a way to deescalate this before it gets even more obscene but I don't see it happening. Note: I don't mind paying a coach a good salary at all (I'm talking about the ones that are just crazy).

So you worry about it then. In the meantime, you have your own network. Given the changing media and conference landscapes -- the likelihood that it will all be different in five years, you wait and see what happens.

You are missing the point. The LHN killed the viability of the Big 12. It totally diluted the conference and with it, Texas itself. Now, it's an anchor around the neck of a school that really didn't "need" the money.

Had a viable Big 12 network been setup in lieu of this flop you would have seen very little in terms of realignment. The Big 12 relationship was tenuous, but this was literally the straw that broke the camels back.

Given the drop in the fees for the Longhorn Network, who wants to take bets on if Texas allows it to be spun into a Big 12 network or bolts to the PAC-12 when the tv contracts are up? My money is on the PAC.

I could see Texas and OU bolting to the Pac 12 and essentially dealing the death blow to the rest of the conference.

I doubt it. If the BIG had stayed at 12 then maybe, but with them adding Maryland and Rutgers they committed to going east. If they expand again they poach the ACC for Virginia and one of UNC, GT, or Syracuse. If they can't get any of them they take Kansas.

Texas goes indy, to the PAC or stays in the Big 12.

Texas won't go with just one traveling partner. Needs at least one more Texas school for political cover.

Can never happen. Texass doesn't have THAT much money. Even when the GOR is over the lawsuits would be more than even they could manage.

That's the beauty of our move to greener pastures. They are SCREWED.

You guys would know more about it than I would, but you have to have a willing partner. Maybe another conference would take a less desirable school to get Texas, we shall see.

GOR is only for this tv contract. So they could leave in 2025 LINK. If they did they would take TT, OU and OSU with them.
