The entire premise of the OP is flawed anyway, he said Lsu is the only defense that can stop modern offenses, but they just lost to Ole Miss.

If Mett throws only two picks in that game LSU wins... That game was not on Chavis.

Of course, I don't believe hailstate would shred us either. Our secondary is an embarrassment of riches and the front seven should be better with linebacking core having experience.

Bison, props to you for still hanging out since 2011. But remember State's running Triple Option Spread. They only really go vertical in Merlin's offense when they see Zero high safety looks. That's when they run the chunk/constraint play. They are gonna chuck it and throw the intermediate and use space underneath with the Splits.

Definitely not the Air Raid variant of the Spread. Far better offense than you give them credit for, and I think you may be favoring your Secondary when their running game and their QB decision making is what will cause problems for you.

I am probably being overly optimistic about our defense. My comment was more about Oregon than MSU. I like MSU's athleticism and scheme. I just believe Oregon's defense, which has been decent, is going to take another step forward.

Circling back to the thread, Chavis has had some supreme athletes in the trenches. Oregon went out and got those under Chip and they are finally Juniors. Athletically we will have our best DL, the safeties are off the chart and the backers will have more depth. However, I do worry about or our ILBs.

One thing that stood out to me about the 2011 LSU squad was the size of the secondary. Claiborne, Simon, Reid, etc. really allowed the front seven to get after it and attack.

I mentioned the secondary for Oregon thinking that our long rangy safeties and cover corners are going to really allow the front seven to attack.

The good news, at least for LSU fans, is that this year's defense will be one of Chavis' best.

I'd settle for just being better than last year. I see nothing on paper to make me think well be much better.
