Better question is why does Chavis struggle so much on third downs and at the end of each half?

Haha so true drives me insane!

Even better question would be why does LSU occupy so much space in that weak mind of yours

Is every CB LSU runs out there top 150 players that only the top fifteen programs in the country have a shot at?
LSU gets a lot of top DBs, but he has turned a number of guys into studs. Mathieu comes to mind. He was a 3 star and not highly recruited. I believe LSU was his only SEC offer.

Last year was Chavis' worst defense he's had at LSU.
True, but our run game was sub- par last year and we ran all over y'all. Sunshine also tossed for 350 yards.
And later in the season y'all shut down a much better TAMU offense and earlier y'all controlled a much better Auburn.
It just doesn't make sense to me. We lit y'all up in DV the year before, too, even though we didn't win.
Please note - I'm not trying to troll. This is a legit conundrum to me. I really do love Chavis's defense. LSU is my second favorite team.

What you listed points to inexperience.

The reason why I ask is because a new set of regional coaches have hung their fortunes on stopping modern offenses (Bret, Charlie, etc.) and I am wondering if they have any chance of copying the only defense in football that has done the job.
That's not accurate at all.

our db coaches have done a good job evaluating kids on campus in camps over the summer (guys like mathieu, tharold simon, tre white, claiborne, etc)
lbs are smaller and have speed to run horizontally
Dline has been churning out studs for years, they get themselves into condition over the summer. that 2011 offseason prepping for oregon brought out the best in those guys in terms of their stamina.
tl,dr...recruiting, coaching, summer camps, conditioning
usually a team like ole miss or state will give us fits later in the year post-alabama, but you just have to give them credit as well. fortunately, thats usually the time of year our offense starts figuring shite out.

Other praised great defense minds of the last five years- Nick Saban, Gary Patterson, Will Muschamp, etc. - have not had success stopping these offenses.
This is dumb. The biggest difference between LSU's and Bama 's game against A&M last year was that JFF was perfect on almost every pass against us, and he looked like Jordan Jefferson against LSU throwing the ball. Missed multiple easy TD passes.
Furthermore, Saban' s defenses have stopped way more modern spread offenses than not.

Gives zero credit to LSUs defense in making JFF look like shite.
Did you even watch the game tard?
What about 2012? Where JFF tore up Bamas defense and got wrecked vs LSU?

Tennessee.. and others. I think he was offered by Bama too tbh.

I can't understand our struggles against Ole Miss either. Part of it is the intensity the rebels bring for the game. Part of it is just the scheme that you guys run.

I did, but thanks for resorting to name calling. LSU put good pressure on him but Bama did too. We were in his face often in that game.

Mathieu was a low four star, but LSU and UT were his only SEC offers and he didn't have any other BCS school offers.

Oh so your DB's just suck. LSU had a freshman lock down Mike Evans. And why deflect on the 2012 question?

How does he do it and (more important part) can his success be copied in your opinion?
It can be copied but only a handful of programs would be able to come close to its consistency.
LSU runs a base 4-3 which is a big key in stopping the HUNH in my opinion. It allows for smaller tackles that can run and smaller ends that can run also. A base 3-4 relies on a big nose guard to chew up the middle and two big ends and neither are really built for HUNH offenses. Think about the ends that Bama uses and that they could essentially be tackles for LSU.
The next is developing corners into top notch guys. Put them on an island and they shine. LSU has consistently pumped corners into the NFL and they aren't all top recruits.
Their safeties play their spots and cover any mistakes made up front.
The biggest key to their success is patience and team play. They are able to contain the likes of JFF because their ends are patient and play their spots with disregard for end game stats.

Look at both years combined stats.
Manziel vs LSU 2012/2013:
Passing: 45/97 500 yards. 1 TD, 5 INT
Rushing: 29 rushes for 81 yards. 0 TD's
Manziel vs Bama 2012/2013:
Passing: 52/70 717 yards. 7 TD, 2 INT
Rushing: 32 rushes for 190 yards. 0 TD's

This gumpy little comment explains why he ripped y'all a new a-hole. Stopping modern offenses requires gap discipline. Break contain, and even if someone is in his face, he's won. You'll rarely see LSU DEs sprinting upfield and breaking contain against a team like that. Watch the first half 2012 vs aTm, and notice the complete shift in offensive prouduction after the DEs got yelled at to stay at home.

yall get so defensive over this.

How am I being defensive? I just explained to you why he was able to carve up Bama even though it seemed like you pressured him. If anything your little hissyfit about how Johnny forgot how to pass against LSU is as defensive as it gets.
