Your problem is using Alabama as a benchmark for success. There is no way to keep the fan-base happy.

I will agree with this and not even mediocre Bama that is 75% of the time, Auburn fans seem to be using Saban years of the best run in college football as a barometer and mad because we aren't beating the best team run year in and year out.

Tommy did a decent job. Fired

The irony is that Malzahn is a better coach, higher winning percentage against much better competition. Facts are facts. malzahn has even kept the program clean from off the field shite storms too so those are a wash there.

quote:

Chiz takes you to the natty? Fired few years later

Chiz lost the team and wasn't going to get it back. Had to pull the trigger on that one as much as I liked Chiz and respect him for winning us a Natty.

I agree that Auburn will have a very tough time firing Malzahn and getting anyone to step into the role that is worth a damn. A, we are the second school in a state where the first school is on the best run ever. B, we are blowing through coaches like it is nothing and paying huge buyouts to do it.

Let's talk to Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Dabo, Harbaugh and Chris Peterson.

After that we could talk to Bill Cowher, Tony Dungy, Bob Stoops.

Then hire Dan Mullen or Hugh Freeze.

I agree. He has to expand his offense if he is going to be successful moving forward. This has been pretty evident for a few years, but he is too stubborn. To him the only deficiency is talent and execution.

I don't think he deserves it, but he will get it.

Fool's gold. His issues have been the same for several years and he has proven he won't address them other than trying to plug in different players. The issue is primarily systemic, not personnel.

The 8-5 Nick Marshall team was because the Defense sucked under Ellis Johnson. Auburn was ranked #3 in late Oct and the A&M Game totally derailed the season. Remember AU had 630 yards of Offense against Bama and still lost.

This year (and last year) the problem is at QB. White is not an SEC QB, but he is the best AU has. They finally have at least an average Defense for a change.

Nick Marshall was good bc he ignored Gus' playbook and created on the fly. Similar to Cam who just made plays.

Defense was the problem in 2014. Did you watch football then?

This is all correct what you said.

It wasn't wrong to make changes it just happens to look bad that changes have happened so quickly. Nothing you can do about that. Auburn will get through it and compete in the SEC. Bama's on a historic run all there is to it.

I will claim that the defense has greatly improved under him though especially down to fundamentals. Once the fundamentals are improved on top to bottom and the players can play looser and stay in position, we will have a very solid defense again.

Yeah, there is no denying that, but that isn't what I was responding to.

The defense did improve, but the lack of adjustments vs OU were noticeable. The fact our offense couldn't do a damn thing didn't help our defense any as well. Overall, it was a big improvement.

Maybe this is who AU is. Sprinkle in the occasional awesome year (2004, 2010, 2013), but maybe 8-9 wins is where the program is. It's certainly where you've been for the better part of 40 years. That's ok. A ton of teams would kill to average 8-9 wins every year.

He resigned

This shite. Come on. Why do some AU fans struggle to admit that Tubs was let go? You don't pay someone $5M when they "resign", unless you allowed them to say they "resigned" in order for them to save face.

Don't you guys lose a good amount of production on the Dline? How did you guys feel about your secondary this year?

This is true.

Auburn will be better on offense next year with Jarrett Stidham, theoretically, but I also expect them to take a step back on the defensive side of the ball with the losses of Carl Lawson and Mon Adams.

Overall, it could be a wash, with a minimal better end result due to an easier schedule.

Gus Malzahn ends up fired in the coming years, regardless, IMO.

Everyone knows Tuberville was forced out and rightly so. He wasn't going to compete with Saban. His recruiting was weak, but his development was strong. That wasn't going to beat a lot of people in today's SEC. He was getting lazy and too loyal to his assistants.

Who knows what Auburn's potential is year in and year out. And maybe it is 8-9 wins with some championship thrown in along the way. That possibly could be the reality of life. Will I accept it? No, I will expect our program to do all they can to be better.

How did he ignore the playbook?

They were good enough athletes to make the playbook look good.

Nick Marshall was an exceptional college quarterback. Auburn would be lucky if Jarrett Stidham ended up as good as him.

Yes we lose Lawson most likely and for sure Adams, Holsey, and Ford. I think we lose one or two more on the DL but we have some talent returning. All the OB's will be back. Some young talent in the DB's returning. Will there be a drop? Yes but will it be better than the 2014 version? In my opinion yes. If our offense can find a way to score we will improve upon this season.

Let's see what happens.
