compared to the previous 20 years.

This takes total AP Poll points for the past 20 seasons (1996-2015) and compares it back to the 20-year period prior to that (1976-1995). Which programs have improved the most?

2. LSU +161
3. Virginia Tech +151
4. Boise State +146
5. TCU +145
6. Wisconsin +133
7. Ohio State +114
8. Kansas State +112
9. Texas +82
10. Louisville +68

Which programs have fallen on harder times during the last two decades compared to the two decades prior?

1. Nebraska -214
2. Penn State -144
3. Notre Dame -128
3. Miami -128
5. Pittsburgh -122
5. Washington -122
7. Texas A&M -111
8. Michigan -109
9. UCLA -91
10. Colorado -91

How do just the SEC teams looks?

+161 LSU
+65 Florida
+60 Missouri
+55 South Carolina
+49 Ole Miss
+44 Georgia
+23 Mississippi State
+5 Vanderbilt
+3 Tennessee
-30 Auburn

Yea, tough to top 1976-1979 + 1992 for Alabama (and a solid but not spectacular 1980's).

1996-2016 included the incredible Saban run and some good years in 1996, 1999, 2002 and 2005 but the years of 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007 were trash.

makes sense for aTm last

aTm has not finished better than 3rd in the Sec West or Big 12 South in 18 years

that kind of suckage for resources aTm has is almost impossible

It is sad to see how far Nebraska football has fallen.

They literally averaged finishing in the Top 6 every other year between 1963 and 1999.... 18 Top 6 finishes in 37 seasons.

Yet they've now gone 14 consecutive seasons without finishing even in the Top 13.

A&M's huge fall is even more funny when you realize they weren't shite before that anyway

All that chest beating and constant talks of cash flow when in reality that program is on par with the Rutgers and West Virginia's of the world.

I loved watching those teams in the early 90s.

They haven't won a conference title since 1999 either. No more than 10 wins since 2001.

National Champs in 1939.

Sporadic good seasons for the next 40-50 years until their most consistently strong period during the RC Slocum years.

1985: #6
1986: #13
1987: #10
1988: NR
1989: #20
1990: #15
1991: #12
1992: #7
1993: #9
1994: #8
1995: #15
1996: NR
1997: #20
1998: #11
1999: #23

Since the '90s its been pretty dismal... save Johnny Football's magical season.

hell,

aTm has only finished ranked 4 times since 1998, with 3 of those final ranking 18, 19, & 23

See, this where you just sound like an idiot. From the time I started A&M in 1985 until the late 90's, A&M rattled off 7 conference championships in 14 years. I'll admit the last few years in the SWC were not the stiffest competition, but A&M pretty much dominated it, and the 80's (and 1998) was a different story with regard to the competition.

*I don't ever see Nebraska getting back to where they were in their heyday.

*Miami has potential to be competitive again, but I also don't think they'll ever come close again to the Miami of the 1980s.

*Notre Dame also has potential, but its become very obvious during the last 25 years that their glory days are over.

These 3 programs will in all likelihood never attain the level they once enjoyed.... joining the likes of other long-lost football powers such as Minnesota and Army.

Penn State has in all likelihood seen their best days, but they never quite got to as dominant of a level as the three mentioned above, so I think they've got a better shot of at least getting back to where they were. But its an uphill battle there too.

I could see Miami becoming a force again with the right leadership. Notre Dame could still be 10 win a year, occasionally competing for a title IMO.

But year, Nebraska is done. Their ceiling is mid tier big ten team that competes for he conference once every 5 years or so.
