UVA/VA Tech are not a package deal. Not even close. If it wasn't for political pressure within VA, Tech would of not gotten the ACC invite when they did. UVA was more than happy leaving them in the Big East.

This. UVA would leave VT behind without thinking twice about it. Getting UVA would have more to do with convincing them that the SEC has made enough strides academically to be an appealing fit. UNC would be easier to convince, but they're going to stick with UVA. Those schools want the ACC to survive.

Everybody seems to think that the package deals are UVA-VT and UNC-Duke. That's not the case. UVA and UNC are the big prizes, and they have tied themselves together.

OU would add nothing to the SEC that isn't already represented extremely well - football. As mentioned, the only two states with schools that would add significantly to the conference are Virginia and North Carolina. Ideally, one school from each state would be the best move for the SEC.

Kansas is a poor option because they are tied to KState which is a non starter. They also are a bad option because their biggest market they "bring" is Kansas City which Mizzou already brings. They are also horrific in football and always will be because they simply don't care about it.

Texas A&M was supposed to be tied to Texas, yet they are now in the SEC. The more I hear about these teams that are tied to each other, the less I believe it. Politicians are smart, and not at least insuring the primary state school lives at the top level of conference realignment even if one does not. Every time I hear no separation of UNC from Duke or UVA from VPI I say anything is possible in an age where the media deals are driving realignment, not the schools or the conferences.

If you watch realignment, conferences are picking schools to bolster their weak spots, not their strong ones. SEC already has TX with TAMU, so Texas is not as big a deal. The SEC is already loaded with football schools so what they are adding is things that add to the overall deal. SEC needs more basketball credibility and Kansas is an elite basketball school. They are also and AAU school, which would make 5 AAU schools in the SEC.

Add UNC and you add a comparable basketball school to KU that is better in every other way.

All well and good except for one problem, ESPN owns the ACC and the SEC and they are not going to let any more ACC schools get picked off by FOX via the B1G. ESPN president is a UNC guy and Slive is a UVA guy. It would not surprise me in the least if they have a handshake deal to have the SEC wall off the ACC from poaching. For those who keep thinking the ACC will get raided by the SEC, you just are not paying attention to the realities out there.

^Truth. The only way the SEC would take any ACC school(s) in is if the league appeared to be falling apart or if UNC, UVA or Duke actively sought admission, similar to A&M. You simply don't hesitate for schools like that.

A strong and stable ACC is important to the SEC. I see an ACC network, much like the soon-to-be launched SECN in the near future. It'll come about with a lot of help from the SEC.

As for this year, we still have a month and a half til signing day, we will be in the Top 15 before it's over. And last year, the difference didn't end up being that big. At least in year 1, as y'all had a worst season than last year, and we had a better season.

The more important point is that we drove you out of Texas. We've absolutely killed you in head-to heads. Hell we're about to take Oklahoma's best (or near best) player from your own backyard.

If A&M is somewhat good, Texas kids will choose us over the Sooners. They chose you in the 2000s because you were riding high while we swam in mediocrity. But make no mistake, you are foreign. And when we give them a reason to come, as a general rule Texas kids prefer us. It's taken just a few wins and no titles in the last 3 or 4 years to very clearly prove this point.

But OU is a good program. I don't deny that. I don't want you in the SEC because: 1) we don't need to make this conference any more competitive; and 2) frick you; pave your own path; sorry your administration doesn't have the foresight ours does.

Great post. Just the right mix of arrogance and contempt. Well done.

Virginia and North Carolina aren't southern one bit. Half of Duke is filled with New Jersey students... None of those teams have a good football team. Besides TV Revenue, move makes no sense

Also, UVA is going to the Big Ten. Fits more academically and culturally with them.
