Fans want:
better match ups
better road trips
better rivalries
athletic directors want:
More TV revenue, which comes from having better ratings for conference games (more network exposure and better match ups leading to more interest)
More money from subscriptions to the SEC Network (based on population of states containing an SEC school)
Rivalries that do not overly strain logistics for non-revenue generating sports

From a $$$$ perspective, it doesn't make sense for the conference to expand west. The growth area lies with the ACC's crown jewels: North Carolina and Virginia. Grab those two and move Missouri to the Western Division.

You my friend have never dealt with Texas. It is not always about "bringing" something to the table. In this case it is about letting someone else have something (Texas-Cancer) OU will go wherever TU is going. OSU will go wherever OU is going. They seem to thrive having a cancer with them. The SEC does not need a cancer.
Frack Cancer !!

I just don't see what you all see in WV.
There are plenty of reasons why they were left out of the ACC and BIG 10 when the first conference shake ups went around. They only got invited to the Big 12 because of panic.
kU/KState are package deal. OU/OSU are package deal. End of story.

I don't think you know what subpar or castoff means...
Not surprising. We were also brought in to raise the derp level.
Let's be honest though, what you really don't like is Yankees coming in and owning one side of the conference. You're just going to have to get over it, or not...

No problem with Yankees. Just think Mizz was more about tv market than better games and am really annoyed they are not in the west.

ADs make decisions. Fans talk on message boards.
Good reasons for both.
Personally, I don't care if WVU could start up a super duper rivalry with Kentucky. Give me the money and exposure.
It's either Virginia and North Carolina, or nothing.

This thread is dumb, and frick kansas. However, in the interest of full honesty in a horrible hread, it was made very clear in the last shakeup that kU and kSU are not connected and can be split up.
That being said, frick them both. I hopes they get split up into the MWC AND AAC.

Well, then you should post that in a thread that's not about what teams you would want "Once the big 12 finally implodes". That implies that the rules of the hypothetical are that you can only take Big 12 teams, not ACC.
If we could take ACC, I'd probably want North Carolina and Virginia Tech (for money) or Florida State and Clemson (for love of the game)

After Oklahoma, nobody. Would consider TT, OSU, and WVU. Don't want Texas in any fashion. Just a matter of time before one comes begging.

Wow they are inching towards the edge aren't they?

The Big Ten and the ACC are proving that you can survive as an ok conference as long as your elites play well. The Big 12 simply cannot survive with both Texas and Oklahoma playing worse than Clemson, Missouri, or A&M.

Texas, you are terrible.
Oklahoma, you are terrible.
West Virginia, you are terrible.
The entire conference, including the opinions of your schedules, will suffer next year due to the performances today.
The bell hath tolled.

Just curious, what do we have to offer schools like Virginia/North Carolina that they don't already have in the ACC? They like basketball, we don't. They are established, I just don't see any jumping ship from the ACC.
IF, thats a big IF, superconferences are to become a thing and the big 12 dissolves, its going to be a shite show.
10 big 12 teams currently. For each conference to get to 16 teams they will add :
SEC: 14 - 2
ACC: 14+ND - 1 or 2
Pac#: 12 - 4
BIG: 14 - 2
So 9 likely spots. Every big 12 school would scramble to not be left out.

I definitely do not want WVU. TCU I could live with.
I don't want an away game where your car might get set on fire, or where you have to fly into fricking Pittsburgh.
I know it'll provide a yokel friend for our mountain people teams, but they'll live without WVU.

Yeah. The ACC has no reason to do anything. And UNC, absent some seismic shift, isn't coming to the SEC. As for UVA, it is more likely the SEC adds the University of Delaware than it is we add UVA. And that is because of UVA. They ain't comin.

Then you don't move.
I don't see the appeal of adding teams just to add them. They have to increase the pie to take a slice. Don't see any other moves that would do that.

Full disclosure, I would personally like WVU because it is the closest drive for me. Although after the car burning comment, maybe I should take the bus.

A private Texas school with a small alumni base wouldn't be ideal. But I'm sure there's a lot worse options.

The simplest solution is for the Big 12 to add 2 more teams allowing for a conference championship. They had this and screwed it up by not holding their conference together. At this point the only Western team candidates I see are Boise St., Memphis and/or Cincinnati.

Obviously SMU would be preferable if they could get to TCU football status. More money, huge Dallas appeal, decent brand. But that may never happen, and while TCU isn't the best from a footprint perspective, it's got a growing brand and has a good football resume.
But admittedly this is mostly based on my "fit" qualifications and not picking up TV markets and the like, which are obviously the real motivations.

Colorado State would be a great add to Big12 and get them the Colorado market back.
