The only team that could beat 2011 LSU was the one they played that night. Those will go down as 2 of the all time great college football teams even with LSU losing the title game. So much talent on that field it was unreal.

I completely agree, but you seem to be assuming that last year's Ohio State team was clearly vastly superior to everyone, and that's not remotely true. They played outstanding football toward the end of the season, peaked at the right time, and earned the title. But that was not a great Ohio State team when compared to other champions.

While I agree that you can't go on previous scores against other opponents to reliably predict outcomes, what other basis can we use to refute an idiotic claim that Ok St would have won by 3 touchdowns? Or better yet, turn the tables - on what basis would ANYONE other than an Ok St person make such a claim?

Based on ELO metrics, 2014 OSU was the 2nd best team all time since 1982. I am not saying they were a top 5 team, but a rating system, not a complete crock, has them as one. LINK

Why do you need to refute the claim? it's just a claim that can neither be proven nor disproven.

Using the the plane crash as an excuse is pathetic and disrespectful to the dead. OSU had no problems with remorse as they built a big lead in the beginning of the game,

I'm not saying that OSU would've shut out LSU that night or even won. (That part was just a joke)

But it didn't take "one of the best defenses in the modern era" to shut down that offense.

The more I think about it the more I'm glad that we didn't hire him as our hc.

The only team that kept us under 19 points that year was Alabama

Thanks to the defense. Y'all were #86 in total offense.

Preach.

LSU's "weak" offense scored over 40 points NINE times that year. It is remarkable how stupid some people can be when they look back on a season through the lens of the last game played.

If Alabama doesn't win that game, 2011 LSU would have CONSISTENTLY been mentioned as the greatest national champion team since 95 Nebraska. Since they lost it, now they are somehow a suspect team with no offense.

Good thing for Florida that year. With that offense, LSU won 41-11. The 66th best offense might have won 61-11,

Not outside of Fairley. They were #60 in total defense. Just shows how good Cam really was.

Exactly. And I wouldn't even say that was a good defense. That was pretty much a 2 man wrecking crew (Bynes and Fairley)

You're right. I was thinking of Fairley...they weren't very good.
