He tried to retire back in the spring and Boren and Castiglione convinced him to stay on, take some time away, and make sure that's what he really wanted to do.

We've known for some time that he'd probably retire after his sons graduated HS. Both of them just graduated HS and are going off to college.

Wait to retire after your kids are out of the house. I get it.

I agree with those points that you made.

Baton Rouge itself could be seen as a less than desirable place to live for many (Not a shot at BR, but that's the truth) Although the vast majority of Americans aren't beating down the door to move to Norman either.

The need to win the SEC is extremely high and can be too much for coaches. I could see that argument, but do you truly want a guy that is afraid to compete with the best running your program anyways? Probably not.

Other than that I don't see any advantages that Oklahoma has as a program to be able to poach a guy that LSU truly wants to hold on to. I do think they have the clout to do that with many teams, however IMO, LSU isn't one of those squads.

Aranda is already the highest paid assistant in college football at 1.3 million/year.

That was the old contact. The new one, signed in December, pays him $1.8 million this year and $1.85 million next year.

As much fun as we've had at his expense I hope it's not health related.

Amen.
