Yeah the concourses are dark and dreary and it has an old feel on the east side of the stadium but I love Neyland. Fun place to go watch Auburn play when we get the chance.

17 renovations and counting. I know one concourse has been renovated so it should def. get better. And yeah, I really do miss the UT-AUB rivalry but expansion killed it. Good times.

I really like the bowl look in the 2nd photo. Although I understand the stacked/angled look is often bowled in later it just doesn't work for me aesthetically. Great pics tho'

In that case, we gotta stick together.

You know, it's kinda funny though. When I was younger I didn't care at all for history. I mean, I did well in it but it just wasn't my thing. In college that changed - BIG TIME. And with things like this, I think our stadiums show just how much the game has changed.

Of course, these days I'm also all about learning as much as I can about SEC traditions. I think traditions and being unique give CFB a flavor the pros just don't have.

Thanks. That Neyland much like Knoxville is ALWAYS under construction certainly helps.

Penn State. Tennessee opened at Georgia Tech but this was Penn State's opener.Oddly enough the played each other to END the season.Tennessee won the night game, 28-21 and the year before, 31-11.The losses to Tennessee were the only regular season losses Penn State had in 1971 and 1972.

Thanks for the sanford pic. My FIL told me about sitting on the train tracks back then. Looks like you could watch from the road too. Very cool

Why did they bowl in the end facing the river first? Seems aesthetically stupid.

They wanted to maintain a view of The Hill and Ayers Hall from the Stadium.

Happy Birthday Neyland Stadium.
I heard there were bodies burried under the field,
any truth to that?

Prior to establishing The Body Farm, the Forensic Anthropology Department was based in labs under Neyland Stadium. So, no buried bodies...but there were cadavers in rooms until the 70's or so.

Here's a view in 1975 of the North EZ with just bleachers.

Note the scoreboard itself. Tennessee's was just like everyone else's in that era. Not much more in the SEC than high school's. Maybe one sponsor on a few. I know Georgia's had "TRUST TEXACO PRODUCTS" and Vanderbilt's had "THRID NATIONAL BANK".

Obviously, someone photoshopped all the cows out, to just imagine them everywhere.
