Well, yes, as it should be for those without a criminal record. Where I live now, you also have to take a conceal carry safety course.

Kind of gives new meaning to the phrase "bleeding like a stuck pig"

How many mass shooting events have there been at churches in the United States?
Somewhere around 150 over the last 25 years. The number varies depending on the source you use.
In other words, way more than you think.

Republican gerrymandering of state districts seems to be going swimmingly.

Great theory.
Explain to me how that elects majority of R governors, senators, and other statewide officeholders all across America.
Here's a hint. It ain't gerrymandering.
Here's another hint. To be able to control re districting you have to Already be the party in power - which wasn't the case for R at the state level as recently as 10 years ago. Even Alabama had a majority D legislature as recently as 2010.
what's happening is an increasing polarization of America between a few very dense urban areas and the rest of the nation. Look at the county map of the most recent presidential election where Trump won something like 2,700 counties and HRC won less than 500.
Even though I almost always vote R, I wish the as were was a simple political trick. Those will self resolve. The two virtually opposite views for our country isn't nearly as easy to heal.

My brother in law (ex-State B.I.) used to carry everywhere, even in Church. Our church was associated with a 1/2 way house for moms in abusive relationships that were trying to leave them. Well, one Sunday her baby daddy found out where she was going there and showed up. Fortunately, everything resolved peacefully and 99% of the people in worship that day never knew something was up. But let's just say, that was in no small part due to his LEO training and him having his side arm. (He politely escorted the gentlemen out of the sanctuary, bought him a coke out of the (old school) vending machine at the filling station next door and followed him (in his vehicle) as he drove out of town....

Bill was pushed by Jerry Jones to get A&M to renew the contract to play Arkansas every year in Arlington.
I think it worked.
