i would rather have gone to Midlands Tech and then transferred to Belmont Abby than have gone to Arkansas. Arky is not the end of the Earth but, quoting Lou Holtz, one can see it from there. Now get your arse back to work picking chickens.

Good point but the best academic schools are research schools

It would have been easier to just admit you were wrong and didn't know what you were talking about.

AAU universities in SEC states. If you're on this list your pretty much the best academic school in your state

Good schools are good schools.
A "quality" saturation point is reached with the AAU universities, where rankings are all but moot; and various differences come down to contextual areas of program interest at the micro--not macro--level.

Damn, son. You never heard of the LSU Press? I spect I would not have told that.

Enough of this silly conversation. GT is the premiere academic school in Ga.

If we are talking about just engineering or only public schools.
But Emory gets the edge over GT IMO.

That's true in a lot of places. In the programs LSU and Tulane have in common, Tulane is better in most of them.

Of course, you're probably better off going to LSU and not saddling yourself with 200k worth of debt for a general business degree.

Yes, the cost is a factor.

If there wasn't a need/usefulness of the various universities in each state, none would exist outside of the state school.

South Carolina's is Furman by far IMHO.

Furman is the Harvard of the South.

Then USC, Clemson, The Citadel, C of C and then probably Wofford.

Then why does Ole Miss claim to be "the Harvard of the South"?

it was down to Auburn or Michigan for microbiology as a second choice
Just saying, where you go to grad school in microbiology really isn't important at all. What is important is who you work under and where they are publishing.

Matter of degrees, I know someone going for her marine biology masters, I would say she's better off at UCLA than Mich, Tenn or kansas St.

Forbes and USNWR use acceptance rates as part of their selection criteria. Bama has ever redneck with a GED trying to get in, so they can party on the strip and get football tickets.

It's one of four Duke Endowed Universities in the country and is often referred to as The Harvard of the South, and for good reason.

Here you go ... let me google that for you.

Don't lie, Rooster. Did you go to Furman? I will admit, out of necessity I went one semester to Winthrop.
