Moronic. BSC is by far the best school in Alabama. Unfortunately they also have the worst location in Alabama, but academically, they are on par with Millsaps, Rhodes, Washington, et. al.

BSC is an excellent JUCO or prep school, but it is not on the same level as full-on national universities such as UA/AU/other SEC schools. Most BSC graduates will end up finishing their studies at UA, AU, or UAB anyhow.

Laughable. BSC is nowhere near Alabama in terms of national rankings.

In Arkansas there isn't a "one school fits all", there are several schools who have great degree programs, the "best" would depend on the degree you were looking towards earning.

That's true in a lot of places. In the programs LSU and Tulane have in common, Tulane is better in most of them.

Of course, you're probably better off going to LSU and not saddling yourself with 200k worth of debt for a general business degree.

Texas:--University of Texas Austin, Bubbas y'all better check the entrance requirements, ballplayers aside.
Louisiana:LSU, probably the best college press in the United States. When I was thinking of going to grad school (history, and I didn't go)--It came down to North Carolina or LSU.
Georgia:Emory, though Georgia and Tech are heavy hitters academically.
Missouri: Mizzou is great, as is Washington University.
South Carolina:Depends on what one is looking for. Furman for those planning on medical school. But neither USC nor Clemson are bad.
Florida:University of Florida. Yankee money and the Bull Gators have made it a showplace for learning. it is a super school.
Alabama:Auburn Before retiring, I hired three of their grads. Super kids. Before our oldest got into medical school, it was down to Auburn or Michigan for microbiology as a second choice. Auburn is that good.
Mississippi:Ole Miss or State.
Tennessee:Vanderbilt
Kentucky: Kentucky
Arkansas:I would have left this state out except businesses have pumped some big bucks into the University of Arkansas. And it has made huge leaps in the past 20 years.

Florida is the only AAU university in the state. That alone is proof

For chicken farming it's Berry,

Interesting. I thought Berry was this elite, pretentious liberal arts school. They are in the SAA, which is like a Southern Ivy League for D3 schools.

If Ag/Animal Management is your thing, it's as good as any in the state, not saying it's a joke, but Emory is considered the states top research institute, by many of those who care about such things.

Berry is a fine little institute and it isn't, at least it didn't used to be, run by snooty liberal elitists, so it's actually a very good school to get a degree from.

As far as overall selectivity and reputation it's Rice and I don't see how it's really a contest. Like most large states though there are going to be specific programs that are better elsewhere

Just saying, where you go to grad school in microbiology really isn't important at all. What is important is who you work under and where they are publishing.
