REC better hope the illegal FA possession is thrown out or a felony stolen FA plea bargain is useless.
14:95 reads blah, blah.........imprisoned at hard labor for not less than five nor more than ten years without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.

It's just "a" defense attorney in Monroe. It isn't "their" defense attorney.

Irrelevant. Going by the quote, the attorney doesn't believe it "will be" reduced, only that it is "imminently possible". Obviously any quote is assumed to reflect the belief of the person quoted, with some exceptions in certain situations.

You totally missed the whole point. I'm referring to the op's title. He clearly stated that it was the attorney's belief. The title is perfectly fine for what is included in the article.

Imagine that a defense lawyer speaking about charges getting dropped. If they asked a prosecutor what do you think he would say

Exactly, this quote doesn't mean jack shite in the scheme of things and where these dumbasses stand right now.

Their shitty choices have left them in a potential world of hurt, to think otherwise is just foolish IMO.

So 2 grown men are sitting in a closed public park after midnite with weed & 2 guns, one which is stolen. What exactly will the D.A. think that they were doing? Drug deal is the only thing that makes sense. So, yea, let's make sure they do not get a felony on their records.

They probably took the weed and guns away from some dude pushing them on kids in the park and were waiting for authorities to arrive.

Don't jump to negative conclusions.

Alabama offensive tackle Cam Robinson could face a severe penalty, including imprisonment for at least a year, after he was arrested early Tuesday morning for felony possession of a stolen firearm. One lawyer believes a potential felony charge isn’t a foregone conclusion.

Cameron Murray, a criminal defense attorney from Monroe, La., told the Decatur Daily’s Alex Byington that an argument could be made to get the charges against Robinson and safety Laurence Jones diminished, or dropped entirely.

“The district attorney’s office here is very good about trying to keep somebody from having a felony on their record, so it’s imminently possible this could be worked out to either a misdemeanor or possibly a dismissal depending on the circumstances of each case,” Murray said.

Byington reported that a felony possession of a stolen firearm can prompt a sentencing of between one and five years for a first offense.

Robinson and Jones were arrested early Tuesday morning in Louisiana after a police officer noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the car the two Crimson Tide teammates were sitting in. The officer also noticed a handgun in Jones’ lap, a bag of marijuana on the driver’s side floor and the stolen handgun out of Baldwin County, Ala., under Robinson’s seat. Both players posted bond and were released Tuesday afternoon.

“We all have a responsibility and an obligation to represent the university, ourselves and our families in a first class way,” coach Nick Saban said Tuesday. “Obviously we’re a little disappointed that better choices and decisions weren’t made here. But, until we get the facts, we don’t really have much else to say about it.”

It's gonna be interesting to see the LSU comments on the board when a Louisiana court dismisses the charges. Who will they blame then?...themselves?

Cam has two different charges against him that call of jail time

1.Posession of a stolen handgun
2.Posession of a handgun and posession of weed.

The police report said Cam was driving, so I would assume it was his car. If so, then he transported a stolen weapon across state lines.

He also got off of some charges already. They could of slapped him with trespassing and DUI.

We'll be fine either way. Is state loses 2 starters they lose additional 4 games. If we lose 2 starters it makes a game or two a 3 td win instead of 4.

VERY presumptuous statement about the prosecutor IMO - unless, of course the defense is engaged in discussion with him and has an idea that the prosecutor is leaning this way. If not, it seems like it could tick the prosecutor off. Also does that prosecutor truly endeavor to keep felonies off records??? That seems a bit incredulous, too.

It is the DA' s job to use his or her discretion in charging defendants with the appropriate charge. That decision is based on a variety of factors, including the nature of the evidence (how solid is it?), the nature of the crime (who was harmed and the nature of the harm), the likelihood that the defendant will stay out of trouble in the future, the age of the defendant, the likelihood that a jury will convict, the likelihood that there will be a plea, time and cost to prosecute the case vis a vis other pending cases that may be of higher priority given limited resources. DAs are also often influenced, though most would not admit it, by public reaction to choices the DA makes in choosing to prosecute as a felony, reduce charges to a misdemeanor, etc.

Our criminal system has as goals both punishment and rehabilitation. The DA to some degree is the first person in the system who tries to balance those goals. In a victimless crime situation or where the harm is fairly minimal, if the DA can use his discretion to help put someone on path away from crime through his choices of which crimes should be charged, it makes a lot of sense to try to try to get an outcome that is best for the defendant and society generally. Imprisonment is expensive for us taxpayers and often counterproductive when other approaches can give a better outcome.
