Sounds good. Time to permanently place the SEC Basketball Tournament in Kentucky.

At the very least rotate it for a few years and see what you get. If it doesn't get strong attendance from a variety of SEC fans then move it back to Hoover.

At the very least, it needs to be out of Hoover IMO.

And I suspect it will be.

I do wonder if memphis will get it for all 5 years since they bid for 3 with the option for the last 2.

I think a 3 plus 2 option would be smart for both sides. If it doesn't work out, Memphis wouldn't take a bath for a full 5 years (nor would the SEC). I don't do economic impact analyses as that's just not my background, but I suspect Hoover is going to put an extremely almost a desperation type bid. A small (compared to Memphis) city that loses all the rv park revenue, rv'ers buying groceries, liquor, beer, dining out revenue for a week is huge. Then you have the hotels that are booked with out of towners plus all of the teams. Losing that would be huge for Hoover but not a big deal for a city the size of Memphis. I also think the Hoover bid will include some promised upgrades to the facilities. If money is the on motivator for the SEC then I could see it staying in Hoover. If a "pretty park" is the motivator, then it will move.

I'm on record as saying the SECCG should rotate between different cities. Rotating the game site would mean new experiences for fans, more money for conference teams.

The SECCG is the Super Bowl of college championship games. It should be treated that way. By rotating it among the great SEC cities like New Orleans, Nashville, Houston, etc.

Well I am going to put on my "Bias" cap and lobby for Nashville. The stadium is on the historic "Sulphur Dell" site where baseball began in Nashville 150 years ago. It sets in the shadow of the State Capital and a nearby railroad.

Besides, I want to load that stadium up with Black and Gold fans.

All 3,000 of them won't come at the same time.

I see a touch of sarcasm in your tone. Yes, Vandy's fan base pales in comparison to MSU. But we consistently rank in the top 25 for average attendance. Google it.

But no doubt the West division teams have better attendance figures.

Memphis is probably the best overall compromise.

Memphis is easy for all the west schools plus it is pretty good for UK, Mizzou as well as being in UT/Vandy's home state.

It is easy to fly into/out of as well from every major city in the SE.

It also offers "other stuff" to do with Beale St/huge casinos/first class Zoo/etc.

Most SEC schools (all West schools minus A&M) have a decent alumni base working in/around Memphis. Lots of Bama grads/UT grads/MSU/Ole Miss.....on and on.

And Memphis would appreciate the tournament as well. They need it.

Nashville is a good alternative imo but that is Vandy's home city which isn't right imo. Memphis is truly as neutral a location as the SEC could possibly find inside the conference footprint other than Atlanta maybe.

I am sure they could get a good number there if the situation was right. But, if you have ever been to the tourney, games start at 10 AM or so on weekdays and most folks are just not going to miss that much work. Plus, you really can't make plans in advance after the first couple of days because of winner's bracket vs loser's bracket.
I can remember an SC and Vandy game several years ago that didn't even start until 10 PM and I only stayed because there were like 5 first rounders on the field. There were scouts out the wazoo. But I could see a pretty good showing say for a semi on Saturday or championship on Sunday.

I have. And I know Vandy avg's less than 3,000 per game.

RV parking at all close by.

The idea that this is a huge factor is laughable.

What percentage of SEC baseball fans own an RV?

You have entire fanbases that would travel 4-5 hours for this, but not 8 hours. The cities would sell hotel rooms.

Laugh all you want but a major factor to Hoover keeping it another 5 years back in 11 or 12, whenever the contract was renewed.

Ray Tanner had a different use for the tournament than most and his fans knew they were probably 2 and out because most years they had at least a Regional host if not Super.

This is head on. Ray Tanner used the SEC Tournament as a tune up for the NCAA because in most years, we already had a regional and super regional already locked up.

In a way, I think this kind of de-emphasized the tournament for our program and we would never play to win it. It's even that way with the fanbase and to an extent, the players. We're ALWAYS looking beyond Hoover when SECT time comes. It's a good thing, because it means our program has a high standard of achievement but it's also a bad thing because it makes it difficult to win the tournament when you need to win it... like last year, for instance.

We've de-emphasized the tournament so much around here that I'm afraid the Gamecocks wouldn't even know how to win it even when we have the talent, which is most years.
