you dont' think graduating changes things a bit? I don't think it's opening a can of worms if you limit this rule to only graduates. Not anyone can follow a coach. But if you obtain your degree, and want to pursue higher ed, and are eligible to play, then what's the big deal? It's not something that would happen frequently IMO.

Probably true, unless he steps down to a group of 5 school and his pure talent negates his inexperience with the scheme.

I'm kind of thinking the same. It's pretty much Bama, UGA, or go down a level. Bama's pretty much off the table given the way things seem to have gone down, so if going down a level isn't something he wants to do and UGA is the only place he wants to go, he can continue to be as vocal as he wants - which is why many of us said from the beginning this is a lose lose for Bama and win win for us. We don't *need* extra help at DB this season, though we'd definitely take it (dumb not to assuming we have the space). More importantly, this will be a reasonably strong negative recruiting tactic for all SEC programs against Bama.

I've said it before and I think I saw it in another thread, the transfer restrictions in general should be taken out of the hands of the coach. Maybe AD, but I lean toward Conference or NCAA committee of some kind (though they can't tell their arse from their elbow often). Graduates should theoretically be able to go wherever they want as they satisfied their original arrangement - undergrad scholarship for playing time.

This has got to be the dumbest story. Followed by people (clearly lacking any intelligence) letting it continue to be a story.

The dumbing down of America right here.

It's a story because it could have big picture implications for student-athlete rights in the SEC.

Say what you want about Smith's mom, but she's brought an actual issue to the forefront.

The rule is the rule. Saban is within his rights as the rule is written. End of story.

I'm not saying I agree with the rule, but it is there in black and white for everyone to see.

If it's about furthering your education first and foremost...then he can do it somewhere else can't he? No rules against that.

Then he needs to go to a non-SEC school. The only problem I've had with this is the trash thing. The rest is SOP for SEC coaches, not just Saban

Sorry, the kid has graduated (isn't it the whole point, kids actually getting a degree)

He's fulfilled his obligation and should be able to wherever he chooses.

The circumstances aren't remotely similar.

Sure they are. Former coaches being able to poach their previous school is a Pandora's box.

But this situation is far more than that. So don't accuse me of being short sighted. I don't necessarily disagree with allowing graduate transfers in-conference. I just disagree with how the Smiths have handled this.

Now you're discussing a rule change. One which every SEC coach, except for Mark Richt, has taken advantage of.

After creating a problem that didn't exist until she went to Saban over playing time for her son.

It's not though, and it shouldn't have to be imo.

People can choose their own educational opportunities for whatever reasons they want to. Graduation should be a fulfillment of the original LOI imo.

Absolutely correct and the student-athletes almost win these disputes when they go to court.

Like I said earlier any court ruling would also probably throw out all rules governing transfers.Which opens up a big mess.

I'm more referring to if a certain school that is within the SEC has a specialty, and is the best place for a student who wants to take that route. I don't think football should hinder them from being able to do that if they've graduated. They have fulfilled their obligations as a student athlete IMO.

No argument from me on that, but her behavior doesn't nullify the legitimacy of the argument.

She is screwing over her son in the longterm. Do you think any NFL GM is going to want a guy whose mommy emails the coach when he doesn't get his way?

She doesn't have an argument in the first place.

What part of "no" did she not understand. I surprised Saban even agreed to meet with her at that point.
