completely agree
at this point, he's creating a distraction for himself

Yea,because the NCAA has been SO successful in all of its court cases involving student athletes.

The longer he fights this, the less likely he is to play anywhere this Fall.

Yeah. Saban isn't gonna budge. He should have gone to Miami.

One could argue that he has to play at Georgia this fall or just sit out.
He probably doesn't have enough time to learn a new scheme and play it well this season in time for the draft.

Saban is pushing his luck here. There"s no doubt in my mind that Bama and or the SEC would lose this fight in a courtroom and what sucks about that is that any type of ruling would throw out ALL rules governing transfers.Which could open up a very bad can of worms.
Then you should be fine with an exodus of players to Miami.

If they graduate, go for it.

Probably true, unless he steps down to a group of 5 school and his pure talent negates his inexperience with the scheme.

Doesn't he have to sit out anyway?Aren't the SEC rules different for graduate transferstudent? (From 1 SEC school to another)

this stupid story just needs to go away. All the crap associated with it is just garbage. Rule is the rule, move on Smitty

Not if he gets released. That's the whole point of this. He wants to play this season as a graduate transfer.

Why is this even a thing? The circumstances aren't remotely similar.

He doesn't have to sit out unless he goes to an SEC school. In that case he needs his current institution to sign the waiver or let the request expire in the case of Chris Black, releasing him to another institution. The rule is black and white. If you transfer in conference you have to sit out a year. Maurice has 100 options and wants one of the few that isnt allowed

I do agree that if you graduate, you've fulfilled your obligations to the university and should be able to leave to wherever you please.
let's say this was a guy who wasn't going to see the field and wanted to change schools to not just be on the team, but also to obtain a Masters degree at a particular school that specializes in a field. That is much more important than football.

This thing is getting so annoying, if people have such a big problem with how Saban is handling this then just outlaw the damn rule. Saban has every right to stop this kid from goin to Georgia and I don't think Smith and his parents helped the situation out any better by going public with all this so they can somewhat try to pressure Saban. Thats one thing that people obviously know about Saban he doesnt like to be pressured into doin something and he doesn't want people telling him what to do. I am a die hard Bama fan and I agree that any kid should be able to go where they want to go but I don't think any less of Saban for how he is handling things as I bet there were plenty of kids who wanted to go Bama but I bet their coach did the same thing as well.

Then he needs to go to a non-SEC school. The only problem I've had with this is the trash thing. The rest is SOP for SEC coaches, not just Saban.

This has got to be the dumbest story. Followed by people (clearly lacking any intelligence) letting it continue to be a story.
The dumbing down of America right here.
