Simply implement a conference rule saying "thou shalt not sign a graduate transfer that played for another SEC school last season". The net effect is identical

Do what? So a kid arrested for domestic violence and a kid who GRADUATES should have the exact same restrictions?

Bama logic at its finest and once again this rule would last about 2 seconds in court.

this is not an off the field issue like you're painting it out to be.

It is. Having a problem with a coach and going to the media with it and crying about it is not going to sit well with most coaches.

he could get a scholarship after sitting out a year.

By the way, what's wrong with either Miami or Baylor which is where he originally intended?

Logic? The rule exists. And won't be changing anytime soon in order for Smith to take advantage.

Far from it...they are the same in its most remote interpretation and completely different in it details.

From Smith's interview from this morning, scheme familiarity.

Here is where these things irritate me. I agree, it feels like Smith is getting a bit of a shaft. It sucks. The rule kind of sucks (maybe).......but we then go off and make it sound like Smith is being held in a dungeon never to be allowed to play football again. You don't have to overplay every situation with theatrics to get a point across.

Smith wants to go to Georgia for his last year. It kind of sucks he can't. Maybe we should change the rule. But, he can (well could have) gone to Miami, USC, Maryland or Penn State and played in the season opener. He can go to Georgia and play in 2017. It isn't ideal for what he wants, but it isn't the nuclear scenario that is being played out across the media.

Logic?

Comparing a kid with a domestic violence charge and one who graduates is logic?

you're just being a bama fan at this point. I'd venture to say some GMs would agree, but some would not.

Wow what a shocker: Kirby and UGA will be running a scheme similar to Bama now. Big coincidence that Kirby was on the record about how the DB's needed improvement.

Well, again you've failed to see a comparison. The poster suggested language being changed in the rule. Which is what happened in wake of transfers with DV charges on their record.

OK. Makes sense then why Smith would think UGA would be the best situation for his final year of eligibility.

This guy has a plethora of top Power 5 schools to choose from......he was all set to go to Baylor until the shite hit the fan there....then Kirby offers him.....but somehow Saban is the bad guy for not wanting what was expected to be a contributer to go play for our ex-DC at a power like UGA.

It might make sense for Smith but it makes zero sense for Bama. What part of that do you not understand?

I'm not arguing that it makes sense for Bama. I understand Saban's stance.

My argument is that it shouldn't be up to Saban (or any other coach).
