OP, is there a link that you could provide? I'd like to read more about these sham NCs that Bammer claims.

I had no idea about any of the examples that you write about.

I'd like to learn more. I believe that LSU has 14 National Championships, based on criteria used by Bammer.

This pretty much sums it up

If you count EVERY championship, it boils down to this...
School Championships
Princeton 28
Yale 27
Michigan 22
Notre Dame 21
Alabama 17
Oklahoma 17
USC 17
Ohio State 13
Harvard 12
Nebraska 11
Pittsburgh 11
Miami 9
Texas 9
Florida State 7
LSU 7

The only one I have an issue with is 1941.

If the AP or UPI crown you, you should claim it.

Most fans agree we shouldn't claim this one.

criteria used by Bammer.

=

+ undefeated Rose Bowl Champ seasons from the pre-poll era
+ AP & UPI titles from the major poll era
+ BCS titles from the BCS era
+ 1 take-your-pick to make up for our claim of 1941

By my count you'd have 4, which isn't too bad IMHO. Not on Bama's level, but not bad either.

Where shall I send the marker? Alabama is weak. The players hate him. I could go on but this post is a blunder.

The 1973 title is a complete joke and an embarrassment that you actually consider yourself national champions. The 1978 title isn't quite as bad, nonetheless, when the other recognized national champion finishes with the same record as you did and beat you head to head it kind of settles it to me that they, not you are the true national champions.

Bama lost to USC early in the 1978 season and worked their way back up the polls. Penn State was undefeated, untied, and ranked #1 so .it isn't a mystery to me why one poll awarded the title to Bama after that game. You probably weren't born then, but I was and watched the game. It was a classic, something along the lines of what we saw two weeks ago only with a happier ending for Bama fans. I have no problem with USC being awarded a share of the title but the fact they beat Bama early is offset by the fact Bama beat the #1 team in a top tier bowl. An LSU fan complaining about this gives me pause since one of the Tiger's crowns (2003) is split with, ironically, USC. An argument can be made for both teams in both 1978 and 2003 so why don't we just say that both teams in both years are deserving under the system in place at the time. Was too young to pay attention in 1973 so not qualified to discuss that one and wasn't alive in 1941 but agree that one is suspect and can't imagine how anyone could rationalize a title when several teams in the SEC finished with a higher ranking. I get amused at how these other fan bases like to belittle and insult Bama's history and tradition. Of course, I guess history and tradition aren't important to those who have none of their own.

I thought we were in WWII in 1941? Bama claiming a NC when all able bodied young american men were being drafted is just sad...

So, all the other colleges claiming titles during WWII, WWI, Vietnam, Korea, and all other wars are sad too? .

this thread has lead to more lulz than I ever imagined.

As I said earlier in an earlier post, the 1978 title is pretty legitimate and earned on the field against the #1 ranked team in the Sugar Bowl. The issue with this title is that the team that Bama shares it with beat them that year. And had the bowls been set up in a manner that they are today where conference tie ins to bowls is trumped to place #1 vs #2, it would have likely been PSU playing USC.

The 1973 title is pretty much a joke and if Bama had any real integrity they would have declined the title. Notre Dame is the 1973 national champion period.

The 1941 title claim is an absolute disgrace. Claiming that as one of your "13" diminishes the accomplishments of the teams that truly won their national titles on the field.

Then there's the 3 titles that Bama claims that were awarded retroactively... one of which was awarded 16 years after the season was played. Again, I'm surprised that Bama bothers to claim these titles as legitimate national titles.

Bama actually didn't claim the retroactively awarded national titles until 1983. That year the sports information director decided to put them in the media guide and the school just has ran with it since.

LINK

Bama has a great tradition and has historically been the best team out of the SEC by a wide margin. I respect all that they have done and can only hope that in my lifetime LSU gets close to Bamas prestigious history (gaining ground for first time ever over the past 10 years). I just don't see why a school so steep in tradition and real accomplishments feels the need to claim a bunch of titles that they really did not win. Yes, they were awarded a national title those seasons, but they were done after the fact and by a very small minority... basically the equivalent of one of the computer polls giving out a title to a team that was only found #1 by their method only. In fact, I went through all the computer rankings last night and saw one that had Bama number 1. Not going to search for it again, but be my guest

LINK

Not mad. Find it amusing most of the time... and annoying other times. And when I get annoyed about seeing "we have 13" written so often that I can swear that its even in graffiti somewhere on my bathroom wall, I always get a good laugh out of the shitstorm following any questioning of the legitimacy of those titles. The less knowledgeable the fan the better. The ones that feel the need to post about Bama on topics on facebook that have absolutely nothing to do with Bama, always followed by rtr, often just rtr get way mad bro.

tl:dr
>not jelly of bama
>bama has great tradition and does not need to claim these titles that actually diminish the accomplishments of their teams that really won national titles
>question bama titles hilarity surely follows
>???
>profit
