LSU fans, you guys paraded around here all off-season telling us how this guy will be a heisman contender and is the greatest college prospect in the last decade.

Dude, a lot of it is people having a laugh and exaggerating his impact. High school ain't college (and it definitely ain't the SEC). We do expect him to be very good because the media and those "in the know" have been the ones saying he could win a Heisman in his first year, etc. We (the fans) don't really know anything. All we've seen is highlights against high school players.

I do agree with your observations based on game 1, but that's just game 1.

Clown statement.

AP played Bowling Green in his first game.

I'd take a guy who tries to run over people and keeps it north/south over a guy who dances around like a fairy in the backfield and gets TFL half the time.

LSU fans will probably jump all over this, because how dare we analyze the greatest recruit in the past 10 years. seriously though, this guy has really limited vision from what i watched in the wisky game.

I just credited it with trying too hard to live up to the monster hype that was going on in South LA. I still believe he will be a top level guy.

The first analysis that I heard after the game was that he did not follow his blockers and tried to wing it. I believe you will see more patience from him next week.

The other thing that was obvious was that Wisc had heard enough about him too and they were overly determined to make sure he did not break loose. That would have been a match on gasoline if it happened. On the flip side LF was a great decoy Saturday - he garnered so much attention that plays he participated in but did not get the ball were mostly successful.

I disagree on both links. He could have tried to beat the linebacker to the outside but on both runs, the linebacker had good outside containment. Going outside could have resulted in loss instead of 1-3 yard gain

Yeah, I believe he is being told to run downhill and get positive yardage no matter what. No backwards cuts that risk losing any yardage. He was rarely taken down by 1 guy and always got yardage after contact.

He would have had 29 yards on 7 carries if it wasn't for the pitch that went over his head. That isn't great, but it wasn't abysmal. Thats a little over 4 ypc, which was more than our other backs were getting before Hilliard broke a few.

I think Wisconsin's starting D, who LF got most of his carries against pre-injuries, had a great run defense scheme planned for us. LF will have the next 2 weeks to improve against lesser opponents and get used to the speed of the college game.

Once we went to 3 wide later in the 2nd half, the holes started opening up, but at that point in the game the coaches put the ball in a seniors hands.

ETA:

He had lots of space on a couple screens, but AJ missed the passes. That play will get better. Also had lots of daylight on options, but AJ wisely kept it and got a couple clutch first downs without risking turnover with a pitch.

Along with every major media outlet that has significant coverage of college football.

Im not saying there weren't LSU fans claiming he will win Heisman freshman year, etc... but its not like that opinion originated with us. People who get paid the money to cover recruiting and CFB slobbed his knob harder than I have seen the vast majority of LSU fans do. And it wasn't JUST LSU sports writers talking him up either.

ETA: He will be fine, and the rest of the SEC will still fear Buga before all is said and done.

There were just as many lsu fans who said its impossible for him to live up to the hype (especially early on) but that doesnt make a good thread.

against buffalo....his first game against a decent team....13 carries for 39 yards against south carolina. fournette will be fine. judging him based off one game is beyond ridiculous.

I say give him goal line oppertunities. Build his confidence up.

He'll get 30 carries combined AT LEAST the next two weeks, hopefully more. We should rest Magee and Hilliard for SEC play and run the shite out of Fournette and Williams IMO.

This isn't a vision issue. He needs to decide to make the cut outside, and trust in his speed instead of just putting his head down early and trying to muscle the extra yard.

Haha... a GOOD USCe defense...

LF played against a team who didn't return a starter on the front 7 AND they lost BOTH their nose tackles...

Should we compare Buffalo (4-8 in MAC that year) in Athens and Wisconsin at a neutral site?

Or maybe the threat of passing for both teams that would take pressure off the running game? Aaron Murray vs. Anthony Jennings...

Or maybe you can stop being a moron.

ETA:

they lost front 7 from a past regime, but the other guys had played like half the minutes last year and Fournette got most of his carries with their best NT in the game pre-injury. You obviously didn't watch the game.

He didn't light the world on fire, but he did decent for a true freshman against a quality opponent at a neutral site. They were defending the run very, very well most of the game. Our OL underachieved if anything.

LINK #1 - watch Wisconsin's outside lineback at the top. barely moves throughout the entire progression of the play, and Fournette runs right into him. he actually starts lowering his shoulder 2 yards out to run into the guy. meanwhile the ENTIRE top of the field is completely empty. if fournette goes to the left at all, he scores.

He was following the FB.. that's usually how running works when you have a lead blocker. Trust the man in front of you.

quote:

LINK #2 same exact situation here, only worse. top olb barely moves on the entire play and fournette runs right into him and gets taken down at the line of scrimmage. once again, there is nothing but empty space to his left, and he would undoubtedly have scored if he wasn't magnetized to the wisky linebacker.

At least he damn near ran him over He's not Noel Devine.. he's not going to beat a defender to the corner, especially when the defender does not get sucked in to the middle.
