I disagree on both links. He could have tried to beat the linebacker to the outside but on both runs, the linebacker had good outside containment. Going outside could have resulted in loss instead of 1-3 yard gain

It is entirely possible that Fournette pulls an NFL Trent Richardson at the college level. But I think he was just nervous/excited for his first game. He will be fine. The game will slow down for him.

he is still a freshmen

Ingram/Yeldon/Gurley had great vision their first years.

LF will get better. First game with a lot of pressure.

I love that you didn't mention Richardson.

he did what he was supposed to do on link 1, was a dead play.

he could have kicked it outside on link 2, stiff arm > walk in

wouldn't surprise me if he was told to run north and south period.

This. If it wasn't for that miss toss play, he would have averaged close to 5 ypc plus he averaged 27.3 yards on kickoff returns. He'll be good it's just some of our fans were ridiculous with the hype.

Point is he's 1 on 1 with a slow, white LB. A great RB beats that LB everytime. He has work to do.

Remind me to find a hobby if I spend this much making a thread about an A&M freshman's first collegiate game to show up a bunch of internet posters on an message board.

And BOOKMARKED

Well bait set, but I happen to agree with you based upon the one game we've seen.

We'll see what happens as he gets over the jitters. All and all, Wisconsin actually has a pretty stout run defense when they're healthy--they compare favorably with everyone we'll face except maybe Florida and Bama.

ETA: And yeah, the hype was fricking ridiculous.

It's probably really unfair to judge him based on those two plays alone, not to mention hold him to the standards I'm about to, but Todd Gurley would have bounced outside and sprinted for easy scores on both of those.

aTm had a running back, small, but tough as nails, named Derek Farmer. His entire career the term "cut" was foreign to him. He NEVER f'ing learned that you didn't have to run over EVERY person. Drove us aggies NUTS

I'd take a guy who tries to run over people and keeps it north/south over a guy who dances around like a fairy in the backfield and gets TFL half the time.

Gurley had 100 yards 2 TD and averaged 12.5 yards per carry in his first game in college.....
