It will never happen because it makes too much sense.
Should have been what happened day 1.

This is actually one of the better hypothetical reorganizations of the SEC I've seen. You keep the traditional rivalries like TSIO and DSOR and make those divisional games and you keep the Iron Bowl as a divisional game. Since Auburn and Ole Miss both lose their cross-division rivalry opponent, they become an East-West matchup. You then make Alabama-LSU a cross-divisional matchup to keep that rivalry, and figure out the rest.
IF that happens (and it won't ever happen), then you lose the cross division rivalries all together...

Stop begging for Auburn to move east, and start demanding that your school (along with Florida) stop sucking at football. That is the real issue.
Weeks spent in the AP Poll, 2009-2016:
1. Alabama- 122
2. LSU- 113
3. Florida- 73
3. S. Carolina- 73
5. Georgia- 72
6. Texas A&M- 65
7. Auburn- 56
8. Ole Miss- 54
9. Arkansas- 42
10. Missouri- 41
11. Mississippi St.- 40
12. Tennessee- 12
13. Vanderbilt- 2
14. Kentucky- 0
Again, the issue during this time of imbalance is not Georgia and Florida. It's the East having to take by far the two biggest drags on the league, Vandy and Kentucky. Those two do not need to be on the same side. That is the crux of the problem right there.

Ole Miss was a drag until they start cheating.

True, it would negate the need for permanent cross-divisional opponents since teams like Alabama/Tennessee and Georgia/Auburn would be in the same division.
The whole cross-division rivalry setup at present is sort of ridiculous anyway, especially now that we have 14 teams but still only 8 conference games. It doesn't make sense to go half a decade without playing a team (Arkansas hasn't played Vandy since 2011 likely won't until 2018). It's also unfair for LSU to have to play Florida every year while Ole Miss gets to play Vandy.

You should never, ever do that until that game is over. We just can not beat them

Because you idiots wait to brag about how great the West is until right after Bama beats Tennessee.
It was clear before the Bama game that the west was above the east. It was stated before the game as well. I'm not sure what some of the East expects when their go to response is "Bama dickriding"

What doesn't make sense is sacrificing rivalry games that are steeped in tradition so that the conference can get more garbage games like Arkansas-Vandy. Arkansas obviously has no issue throwing rivalries and tradition to the wayside... but if expanding to 12 teams and then to 14 teams means we have to throw history and tradition into the dumpster, then I think we need to go back to the original 10 teams.
Georgia has played Auburn every single year that we've fielded a team going back to 1892. Alabama and Tennessee have also enjoyed a very long rivalry. If we are going to toss those aside just to be able to see Arkansas travel to Nashville more often or to see Ole Miss face Mizzou, then we've lost sight of what is important.

2016 now marks the 8th consecutive season that the West has bested the East in head-to-head competition, and it will in all likelihood mark the 8th consecutive season in which the SEC Champion hails from the Western division.
The NFC won 13 Super Bowls in a row from 1985-1997.
It happens.

Awesome job not reading the thread, moron. The new division structure under that hypothetical is below.
quote:
East:
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
South Carolina
Tennessee
Alabama
Auburn
West:
Arkansas
LSU
Mississippi State
Ole Miss
Texas A&M
Vandy
Missouri
I accept your apology.

There can be only one answer to this, in order to bring balance to the conference as a whole.
Transfer Alabama and Auburn to the East and move Kentucky and Vanderbilt to the West.
I know, I know, it is a big sacrifice to take those teams into the West and be forced to play them each year but we will somehow soldier on.

No one's mentioning that if this happens in the next couple years it will coincide with the post-saban decline. just sayin. Moving to the East would make the bama job all that more attractive, though.

Well done analysis.
I've been in favor of a realignment and cancellation of permanent cross divisional games for some time.
In the long term maintaining this imbalance will really hurt SEC football.
The entire conference is built to put Alabama in the best possible position to play for a National Championship. It works.

That's #1 vs #1, not a systemic inequality.

Yep... UK and Vandy are the real culprits in the imbalance. Flipping AU and Vandy would almost solve the issue overnight.... but the TSIO would die (appears to be pretty much dead already tbh)

Under the old 5-2-1 (two permanent cross divisional opponents) format I would agree with you... under the current 6-1-1. I just don't buy it.

I remember the old Florida tenn games in the late 90s were the big ticket games and the west was down. Times are a changin

The SEC league offices will never do anything to change the divisions .... and eventually things will return to normal yin yang balance stuff.
Basketball will be well in favor of the East, both men's and women's, and baseball will continue to lean slightly in favor of the East.
Football though, it may be awhile.
