This problem is only getting bigger with each passing year. A time is coming when the league will be forced to do something about this. It's continually getting worse.

How about the East teams try and get better on their own. Why should the league be responsible to make the East better? What do you want the league to do, put caps on the number of 5 and 4 star players a team can sign?

Just another reason to move Auburn to the East. Someone has to stand up to those big bullies in the West.

Except Auburn has been at or near the bottom of the West the last two years.

Which east team will get the first win over the west? UK over MSU, maybe?

Potential wins for the East:

Florida vs. LSU (<50% likely)
Florida vs. Arkansas (<50% likely)
Kentucky vs. Miss. St. (<50% likely)
Georgia vs. Auburn (<50% likely)

I don't see a single game in which the East team would be favored if they were playing this week. They may (and in fact probably will) manage to win one or more of these, but 14-0 is a distinct possibility.

52.7% chance Arkansas beats Missouri
47.7% chance Arkansas beats Florida

I think FPI is undervaluing Arkansas (#33) while simultaneously overvaluing Florida (#17)

And apparently overvaluing Mizzou, too. I don't see how Arkie could only be 52.7% likely to win that game. I'd guess it's closer to 80% than 50%.

From 1992 until 2008, the SEC East claimed 11 conference titles to the West's 6. But the actual head-to-head record was an amazing 160-160-3

that's pretty amazing

The West vs. East thing, it's been bad since 09, but the bottom has absolutely fallen out the last 3 years.

Isn't Tuscaloosa further west than Nashville?

TN to still play all their long term rivals (Aub, Bama, UF, UGA, Vandy and UK)

Florida and Tennessee were not "long term rivals". Until divisional play started in 1992, they were rotating opponents on each other's schedules. I think the same is true of Georgia and Tennessee, too, but am not certain of that.

Florida's long-term (pre-1992) permanent opponents were Georgia, Auburn, LSU, Miss. St. and...maybe Kentucky?

Tennessee's were Auburn, Ole Miss, Vandy, Kentucky and Alabama.

The NFC won 13 Super Bowls in a row from 1985-1997.

It happens.

But was the overall head to head 72% for the NFC during that time? I seriously doubt it.

I hate Arkansas, but there's no way they're going to lose to Missouri.

This is what I fail to understand. Auburn finished dead last in the West last year, yet they think moving East will strengthen that division?

And Alabama rules this conference right now ~ they will NOT be moving East and the conference can't force them. I promise you UGA/FLA/USC/UT do not want us over there.

It's not as much as Auburn strengthening the East as much as ditching Vandy or Kentucky would help get rid of the true dead weight.

What doesn't make sense is sacrificing rivalry games that are steeped in tradition so that the conference can get more garbage games like Arkansas-Vandy.

At least we'd beat Vandy

Amazingly, South Carolina is the last team from the East to beat Bama. I'm not sure how they can realign things, but it's a little ridiculous right now.

I don't know whether I'm more impressed with your documentation of all the relevant stats to make your argument or the fact that you managed to actually get through a post without taking a swipe at Alabama academically.
