One SEC Title in the worst stretch of Bama history, not bad. Bama has been blessed with greatness, a few bad years here and there is a small price to pay.

Not well versed on the CFB landscape the last few decades I see.

How awesome was AU before Shug? Before Dye? Do the years change to fit your narrative?

Not really a fair comparison. AU is not an elite program. When they have bad stretches its not far off the norm. That's why he pointed out the numbers in the OP, an elite program falling on hard times is much more visible.

So you weren't world beaters prior to either coach but rather decent teams?

How would you describe elite then man? Auburn is a top 15 win% team all time. Auburn also does not have periods of time that collectively shitty in the modern football era

Tennessee is the only other top 15 program that had a losing record in a 10 year stretch since 1980.

10 years is a long fricking time to be bad

Top five or so is what I consider elite, certainly no more than top ten. AU is a nice little program but it's not up with the big boys at the national level.

I have nothing to add to this thread other than your sources on Rashaan Evans were magnificent.

So you're saying they're only 10 programs that matter in CFB? Would you like to name them?

consistently avg, nothing wrong with that. But the downside to that is that AU doesn't sustain at the higher levels either.

You did go 50 years without an SEC title. That's pretty embarrassing.

Most of those Bama teams were better than 2012 Auburn.

Top 15 all time isn't average. You're right, not as good as Bama but still top level.

Since 2000 we are also top 10 among BCS teams

Don't remember saying that, I did say there were only a few elite programs historically. IMO there are less than 10 but I have no issue if fans want to include up to 10.

Since 2008 AU is 49-28. Not bad at all, but not "elite" compared to LSU or Bama during that stretch. Take out AU's two flukey type seasons of 2010 & 2013 and your record is 23-26. I would say that is, in fact, "collectively shitty".
