quote:Well, that's the problem with conference expansion. As a fan, I'd like to see my team play every team in the conference fairly often. Instead, we'll go years without seeing some teams. Note- as an LSU fan, we never played Hershel Walker, Peyton Manning, or (I think) Bo Jackson, despite being in the same conference. That sucks, to me.
Then why not push for the divisions to go away instead of pushing for permananet opponents go away? It's a cyclical league.
Why should it be east vs west if the best two teams are in the same division? Why is it fair for Arkansas to have 4 permanent top 15 opponents and Georgia to have 1?
Only 2 answers to that- shrink the conference (won't happen, in fact it might expand again), or rotate more games. When the Big 8 turned into the Big 12, you lost the annual Oklahoma-Nebraska game, which I'd argue was bigger nationally than any SEC permanent cross-division rivalry.

So what was funny about me playing college basketball?

well, you didn't play college basketball for one

1) Because you can't play a true round robin (13 games) with a 14 team league and 12 regular season games. If you could there would be no need for the championship game anyway
2) You can't tell who the best two teams are in the league without doing a round robin - and even with a round robin there will often be factors including injuries, location of games, questionable calls that would devolve the "best team" discussion into its typical outcome (the biggest name teams are automatically given the benefit of the doubt).
For example, in the previous year I have little doubt that Missouri would have been passed over to give Bama another shot at Auburn instead of letting Missouri have a chance.
3) The advantage of divisions is clear when you have too many teams in a conference to simply play a round robin. It allows you to have a simple playoff in which the winner of each division moves on to the championship round.

that Florida football game doesn't mean squat to me. If we're going to keep expanding I'd like to play the East teams more often. Again, since this is all because of Alabama vs Tennessee, if that game is so sacred and special play it as a non-conference game.

This is such an easy fix without destroying traditional rivalries. Only count divisional games for your conference standings. It really is that simple. The best from the West and East go to Atlanta based on your results against your divisional opponents. I cannot understand why someone would be against this.

With 14 teams you really need 9 conference games to get enough coverage. Harder? Yes. But with the new playoff format losing a game isn't a deal breaker. The SEC champ will be in the playoff virtually every year even with a loss or two.

Isn't this the same guy who takes it up the arse on schedules, himself? The guy that gets dictated to by aTm? The guy that lost Saturday Night in Death Valley? Alleva and guts don't belong in the same conversation.

I agree. It would allow some teams into the SECCG with possible a worse conference record. But it is the definition of a fair setup. If you don't agree with this you are an a-hole

You want what's best for the league, Alleva? Bull shite. Alleva and the lsu fanbase wants the easiest path for lsu and the hardest path for Alabama, and anyone that says otherwise has their head in the sand. It's pretty plain to see.
No.. we just want to be on an equal playing field with schools that indisputably receive preferential treatment.
We enjoy tough games, we just don't want to be punished for playing them. We were just recently punished for winning the SEC, I mean that shite gets old.

Wait.. Who does LSU play in the East this season?

I just don't see how people are so upset with Bama considering the murderer's row that they went thru during the Bridge Schedules.

If Alabama and Auburn moved to the East, the problem would be solved.

If they just went to the roommate switch proposal the problem would be solved

frick you Alleva you pussy. Bring on UF every year.
Let's focus on trying to win on the field, and not through a rules or schedule committee.
