Oh, I got you.

You said "I used to respect that school." I misunderstood and thought you had lost all respect.

If players are paid for their name and likeness from merchandise sales only, do you think that is workable?

It is not time to pay college athletes anymore than they currently get paid , scholarship , room and board.

Only naive dimwitted people can't see that.Only about 10 to 15 colleges turn a profit in the athletic department , the others break even or lose money.

If the players don't like the free education they receive let the get a job and skip school.

Couldn't we let players get paid for their jersey sales and such? Why is that unworkable? I haven't heard a good argument to the contrary.

Sounds like a great idea. Create dissension on your own team.

They get paid already. Let them form a league if they don't like it.

"Hey, 5 star recruit, if you sign with my school I'll pay you $200,000 for a jersey when you get there."

No different than just paying for players.

Sure it wasn't an ad for Neutrogena?

I mean, he needs a new revenue stream now that the autograph business is dried up.

That's right, think about everything that's going on in the United States and the world right now, and Johnny Manziel is on the cover of time because of a story on paying college athletes.

Truer words where never spoken.

How would that create dissension? Does it create dissension on pro teams?

Illegal. In the theorized process, an athlete, any athlete would be entitled to a SET amount off any merchandise with their likeness or name. Any booster wanting to pay extra would be no more (ncaa) illegal than it is now.

Manziel = King of the King's court jesters.

Texas A&M = Jim and Tammy Faye Baker...... fake morals.

Wrong. The pay can only come through sales of the merchandise from retailers. If a booster wants to buy $200,000.00 worth of jerseys, how is that any different that donating to the university. It's just that NOW, the player gets a cut. And IT IS WORTH IT, RIGHT?

Interesting. Couldn't the booster / school just buy more merchandise to funnel money to the player?

Yes. And?

Although, I can't see how the school can buy from itself without some serious accounting book cooking, but why not?

I guess the bottom line is that if you believe that college players should go to the highest bidders / deepest pockets a la the NFL, then sure go for letting players profit off sale of merchandise.

No , for starters it is not THEIR jersey , it is the universities jersey , they know this when they sign a scholarship.

Unlike professional teams 95 percent of college stadiums are paid for by colleges , not bribe money from cities.

I think the schools should be able to make sure the kids have nice clothes if they have none.
