Frick this shite. If kids want to get paid, then start a D league for those who want to play amateur/semi-pro ball and they can go there. You can own your likeness and whatever else you want to stake a claim to.. (good luck marketing yourself).
If you choose the other alternative, college, then you get 3 hots and a cot every day, spending money, tuition to a 4-year institution of higher learning and basically all the free athletic casual clothing you want.
In my opinion, that's the only way this will work. Of course if you go the D league route and accept payment you are ineligible to play CFB. And if you don't make it to the NFL then tough friggin luck - now go find some money for tuition to get an education bc you won't be earning a living playing football.

This is not true in the case of graduate students. I guarantee we live a lower quality of life than football players. I'm not complaining about it, because I CHOSE to do it just like these football players.

letting athletes make $ just allows schools with the most boosters buy recruits. How does that maintain a level playing field for college athletics? The sports should be decided by the coaches and players, not booster $.

That's putting it mildly. Basically, a booster could then promise to pay a player hundreds of thousands of dollars "for an autograph" if they chose a certain school. Not to mention what it would do to team chemistry.
This is all a garbage argument anyway. Only a few athletes out of the thousands who play college sports are truly worthy of the "money maker" argument.
If you want to talk about spending money or stipends, that's one thing. At least with that you could be fair and be able to monitor the money.

My company regularly hires chemistry grad students to do short term research and pays them much better than LSU. Besides this analogy isn't comparable. If someone asked you to wear a certain brand of lab coat and offered you $500 to do so, would you be allowed to or investigated for it?
ETA: I'm ducking out of this argument since it's always the same or bloody slap fight, but I'm not suggesting the school pay players. I think the NCAA owes players a cut of what their likeness earns, not that LSU should be handing all ticket profits to players.
If a player is good enough to be on the cover of NCAA 14' then he deserves a cut for promoting the game that EA cut the NCAA a check for.

NCAA investigators do not have subpoena power, meaning even if Cam and Johnnie made that money, there is not much they can do about it. The school wants to make money off the player so everyone shuts up and lawyers up. leaving the NCAA with nothing more than here say and innuendos.

It's under the umbrella of paid internship, but LSU doesn't dictate what we pay them. Football players have no such options. I worded it wrong earlier to say they own the research, we make them sign that away just like LSU, I just meant they're allowed to seek work off-campus if they choose.
