How does it prove that? Look at the BP results I posted above...did all those guys fail to "put in the necessary work"? You're looking at some of the best DE/OLB players in the NFL...

Clowney may or may not have real work-ethic/drive issues...but his 21 reps on the bench-press doesn't prove or disprove anything. DJ Fluker put up 21 reps last year at 340 pounds. It means literally nothing. Most useless physical test at the Combine, bar none.

Why? Dee Ford had 3 years before he showed up. How do we know this wasn't a fluke year for him or something?

Kony Ealy did 1 more rep than Clowney did while weighing in 7 pounds heavier BTW. Did he also fail to put in effort in the weight room?

This would be a story if he did 15 reps. 21 reps puts him right in the range of similar size/build players at his position who have gone on to post huge seasons in the NFL.

This is nothing more than confirmation bias. You've all been conditioned to conclude that Clowney is a lazy low-effort player to the point that you are now literally spinning data in an attempt to prove that conclusion.

Wow. Rarely is there such a post that exudes as much intelligence and logical thinking as yours on this site.

I'll take Spurrier at his word. If he says he wasnt putting forth as much effort as the other players on the team, then who am i to say different? Hell, i saw JC take himself out of football games because he was "banged up" ie tired.

As to Dee Ford, he was injured for most of his career at Auburn. Came in undersized, worked his butt of in the weight and earned his spot. He outplayed Cory Lemmonier in 2012 as well, but was injured early on and had to miss games. Hell, he was banged up for the first two games of this year and still outperformed JC

Greg Hardy (281 pounds): 21 reps ... 15 sacks in 2013
Jarred Allen (265 pounds): 13 fricking reps. 13.
Tamba Hali (275 pounds): 18 reps

Ergo....non-story.

it certainly adds credence to the belief. I'm sure his own coach will set the record straight though

FIFY.
You obviously didn't hear the whole quote so I can't take you seriously. No one is gonna work as hard as Marcus Lattimore did, anywhere, which is who he compared him to. Spurrier also praised Clowney's practice ethic by stating he oftne had to tell Clowney to slow down and not go so hard so the offense could actually work through full plays.

So when Clowney has bone spurs and sprained ribs its just "tired" yet,

Clowney worked his butt off as well when he first came in from high school to earn a large playing role racking up 8 sacks, besting that of Devin Taylor and Travian Robertson, both NFL DLineman.

How does it add credence? I just listed like 8 star-caliber NFL DE/OLB's of similar size/build to Clowney who repped out in the same range as Clowney's 21. In fact, many of them actually did less reps than him.

So by conclusion that must mean that every single one of those guys were also clearly lazy in the weight room. Didn't put in enough effort. Right?

The problem is that you guys seem to think that 21 reps is a pathetic number when in reality past results for the position show that that isn't even remotely an accurate conclusion.

Hopefully O Donnell cashed out right in Clowneys mug after he finished that last rep

That guy is huge. Like 6'5 250 or something stupid. Refused to play any other position while he was at Miami.

Which has what to do with Clowney exactly?

Jake Matthews did 24. 1 more than that punter. What a lazy, low-effort player. Clearly lacks work ethic to commit to the weight room. You're talking about a 308 pound OT that can only do 1 more rep than a punter?

Am I right....?
