I'm pretty sure they bought out Mervyn's a few years ago. I could be wrong about that though.

ETA: Nope. Mervyn's shut down from Bankruptcy.

From wiki:

quote:

Belk, Inc. is a mid-range to upscale department store chain founded in 1888 by William Henry Belk in Monroe, North Carolina. It is the nation's largest family owned and operated department store company and has 306 locations in 16 different states. The company is in the third generation of Belk family leadership. Belk stores and Belk.com offer national brands and private label fashion apparel, shoes, accessories, cosmetics, a wedding registry and home furnishings. Belk competes with departments stores J. C. Penney and Kohl's. Its flagship locations are larger and sell higher end, more specialty brands of merchandise. Therefore, they compete with higher end retailers, such as Dillard's and Macy's.

Ah, well there you go. It's a Southern department store. Like Rich's used to be before Macy's bought them out.

It's no more embarrassing than the outback, taxslayer, or Buffalo Wild Wings bowl.

I've never heard of the belk bowl. I googled though and found out it has only been around for a few years and only been the belk bowl the past 2 years.

Yeah, but you're not from MN. They bought McRae's, Parisian, and Proffitt's, among many other southern chains.

if your bowl is named after a place you would go to register for wedding gifts... You might be in a lame bowl

It's a bowl game. It's a chance for kids to get experience. I don't get what's embarrassing.

At least you don't have to worry about your bowl stadium collapsing on you.

I worked at Belk part time when I was in school. It sucked.

Your bowl? It will suck.
