Not really.

You get the extra practice time for the young players.

It is a pro stadium in a nice city.

Other than the playoff games, any bowl is a chance to practice and work for next year.

I remember when the stores were called Belk Hudson...

Hudson was embarrassed about that and asked that they take his name off.

Actually it's equal to all of those bowls. Under the new system, virtually every bowl not in the big 6 is a mediocre site. Really you're just arguing that you're an inch taller when were both 3ft tall, only well actually sell our bowl allotment and mizzou will... Well, you know.

It is a great opportunity for the young players to continue to get great experience.

Any bowl is good for that.

We don't have any in Minnesota. What is it anyway? Yeah, but you're not from MN. They bought McRae's, Parisian, and Proffitt's, among many other southern chains.

Why do you say that? Lived here my whole life.

In this era of playoffs making them is the only thing that matters. All other bowl games are equally irrelevant.

Eh, it's a lower tier bowl. It has little history, and no cache b/c it is a corporate name, not an "actual" name. Charlotte is a nice, growing city so it wouldn't surprise me to see this bowl climb the hierarchy a little.

Overall, it isn't embarrassing, but nothing to brag about. IMO the only SEC bowls that are embarrassing are the Birmingham Bowl and maybe the Independence Bowl (though it has a bit of history which helps). It is also embarrassing that the bowl in Jax is now the "Taxslayer" bowl. That used to be a pretty good bowl, but it has fallen on hard times.

What most people don't get yet is that after the big six bowls all other SEC linked bowls aren't tiered by success anymore (except the Citrus that looks like it will take the SECCG loser every year that it can)...

The SEC is filling their half of the bowl matchups by looking for the most attractive matchups, location of bowl to team, excitement level of fanbase (i.e. UT fans happy will travel to Jax, UF fans bummed so put them in B'ham cause they ain't gonna travel anyway) & bowl support history (i.e. UGA fans should sell out Charlotte allotment, not so much Tampa).

After the Citrus Bowl pick it is now about putting fannies in seats, fans traveling & attractive matchups, not who went 9-3 or 6-6...

It's the "new" way it's gonna be done so get used to it...

Same thing as a walmart bowl pretty much

Belk is way more upscale than Wal-Mart.

We have some in DFW and it's my favorite place to shop. They were also the first retailer to approve a credit card application for my SO after she'd came out of bankruptcy, so I have a soft spot for them.

They've been doing some national advertising, and they're the official department store of the SEC Network.

Pretty good accomplishment for a shitty team like UGA. Stop living in the past, be proud of the present.

Isn't SC playing in shreveport in bowl named after a duck call made famous by a reality TV show?

Just think, you get to visit the NASCAR HOF that Atlanta "lost" out on.

As compared to what?

Orlando versus Minnesota?
Tampa versus Wisconsin?
Jacksonville versus Iowa?

This was the best case scenario behind playing Notre Dame in the same bowl.

Only for GA preference. Those three bowls are higher profile than the Belk Bowl (admittedly it doesn't matter much anymore), and Wisconsin is a far better opponent for any other team, while Louisville is probably comparable to Iowa or Minnesota.

Yeah, but people still know. The money is different, as are the date/time slots.

But if AU got a big opponent in the Belk I wouldn't care.

Embarrassing?

No. It is in a good stadium, fairly close to Athens, against a ranked team.

How is that embarrassing?

Not knowing what Belk is...that is embarrassing.

Louisville is much higher than Iowa or Minnesota. They've actually had some relevance recently unlike the other two.

Personally, I love this matchup. Playing in a New Years Day bowl doesn't really carry the same weight that it used to. Now it's all about who you're playing and playing Louisville with all those story lines is ideal. Definitely prefer the Belk to Outback or Citrus.
